Just for fun I grabbed my telescopic magnetic tool and poked and prodded inside my 23 JTR frame and connected with some metal debris that I pulled out! Can you imagine if I was to ever hear this thing clinking and clanking around how absolutely mental I would have become! Some here would say I already am but… LOL, what’s in your frame making you crazy?

More importantly....um where does it go back? Is that some factory leftover shit, or is something on your truck supposed to be bolted to it?

Nothing is missing and no signs that tell me it needs to be somewhere holding something

Right on. The little bit of rust in the threads make me think that *something* was threaded in there at some point.

Do you have a hitch? Does it look like it's the OEM one or aftermarket? From my days installing hitches, that reminds me of the plate that you slide in the frame and the hitch bolts to. Lack of a P/N indicates it's likely not an OEM thing.

The other thing, depending on where you found it, could be if it's supposed to be in a certain point on the chassis to bolt a reference mount on a body shop machine. The two bolts- one holds it in place, the other your remove, mount the alignment tool, and "rack" the chassis. I'm not a body shop or any of those types of mechanics, so forgive the lack of proper parlance.

As the notorious John Bender said, "Screws fall out all the time, it's an imperfect world."

I’m thinking the assembly employee was mad and thought throwing that in would make him happy.
If I remember right, you bought it used, right? Wonder if there is some aftermarket accessory that used that somewhere along the frame and was removed before you bought it.
Maybe even a backing plate for a bumper or light bar mount that migrated to the lowest part of the frame.

Did you know the original owner? It's possible he removed some stuff before selling. Not gonna lie, I may have dropped a nut or washer in some inaccessible place while doing that before trading in. (Maybe even a few days ago....shhh!)
