The good news is you now have an extra pound of payload capacity. ;)

Rockrail attach to frame nut. One on each side. This is my guess looking at the parts page. Item 4 and 35.

I think I will scratch around on the drivers side a bit more! Can you imagine the harmonious clanking these things would do over washboard ?!

The previous guy never put on rock rails so do we all have these sitting around in there?

Just for fun I grabbed my telescopic magnetic tool and poked and prodded inside my 23 JTR frame and connected with some metal debris that I pulled out! Can you imagine if I was to ever hear this thing clinking and clanking around how absolutely mental I would have become! Some here would say I already am but… LOL, what’s in your frame making you crazy?

I don't have my JT with me to check my self, but looking at the picture and the parts catalog, that is my guess. If a robot installs the part, I can see it loading another nut instead of fishing the lost one.

Nope. That part just has holes, no welded nuts.

I installed running boards/steps on a couple RAM1500s last year and a couple of the kits came with a bracket very similar to this. You mentioned it was near the (rear) door area, that confirmed my suspicion, as they generally have mounts for the brackets near the rear door and firewall/bulkhead areas to support the majority of weight/force.

Another thing leading me to believe it's for steps/running boards is that style bracket is used on through-hole mounting, were there 2 similarly space holes in the frame nearby in either direction?

Have you ever had running boards/steps on it? Have any of the previous owners? If you bought it from a dealer pre-owned, some dealers will uninstall accessories for various reasons. Some people when they uninstall won't take the time to remove these brackets when they drop them, or simply don't care.

Yup…. At least if it is something like crap thrown into the frame, which I think this single piece is, it doesn’t take long to look around with a camera and cross that off the list.

Someday someone will find the 5/8 deep socket that I dropped inside the frame of my 2004 TJ. I fished with a magnet but never was able to retrieve it.
