..... I pulled the top down at lunch to keep the interior cooler, but never latched it.... ...That top slammed back so hard I thought it flew off...
If you get going fast enough for it to pop up in the wind on its own, you'll be going way too fast for this maneuver.... When I do this, I unlatch at a stop sign or light, then hold the top up a foot (or as high as I can reach, seated) and take off. usually by around 8-10mph it'll stand up high, and by 15mph it gently folds back under even pressure, with all the fabric held free of the hinges by the wind. One person somewhere on here labeled the act as "hard on the equipment", but I have to imagine, if you watch the acceleration, its kinder on the whole mechanism and fabric than manually opening it from one side with the canvas scissored in the frame...

I won't be trying that. On the JL, if you forget to latch the soft top down, it will fly open at approximately 45 mph. Ask me how I know? Scared the crap out of me both times.

I took the soft top completely off of my JT yesterday and it was much easier than the JL. Took me 8 mins the first time and I expect 5 the next time. If I get a torx electric screwdriver, I imagine it will be only a couple of minutes. The man bun isn't really that bad, but completely off rocks.

I did this, by accident. I pulled the top down at lunch to keep the interior cooler, but never latched it. Came out after work jumped in it and took off. That top slammed back so hard I thought it flew off. I now make a concious effort to close 1 latch when I put it down for shade.
Oh yeah, you have to pop the top up and just ease into the pedal. Otherwise you are going to slam that top back, rather than just having it flip back. How fast it flips back also depends on how breezy it is. Found that out by accident lol.

After years in a JK I found the sunrider flop to be what I was doing the the vast majority of the time. I live in lake effect snow country, so hard tops in the winter is not optional. With my new JT the sunrider for hardtop seemed the best of both worlds.

The top has little stops that prevent it from going down a tiny bit more. I removed them. Def helped the “man bun” look. And i feel when the truck is lifted it doesn’t look as bad.

Mine came with hardtop for which I got the Sunrider quickly after purchasing it. I had decided I hated the man bun soft top and I wasn't going to get one. Then I came across a new in the box soft top on OfferUp for a great price so I caved and got one. It is real nice to pop that thing back and enjoy more sun and air. The hard top will go back on during the winter months.

Yep that is the exact speed. I put it down and but didn't latch. Forgot about it and are around 45 mph it flew back and slammed down. Scared the hell out of me. Also had it pop open once when latched doing about 65 into about a 30-35 mph head wind. Scared the hell out of me then also.

Man bun or not, for me it doesn’t get any better than that.

Yep, the reason I chose the hard top. I wondered how it would look flipped back since it really had nowhere to go. I can have my hard top removed in 10 minutes or less, way easier on the JT than it was on the JKU I had. I'm not missing the soft top one bit. I'll be doorless and topless soon anyway.
This is a not a good answer, I can have my soft top completely removed in half that time. There are only four bolts holding on a soft top. Plus, it's easier to manhandle and find a place to safely store it.
