I've been happy but maybe I do not know any better. I drove a manual 2000 TJ for 14 years, that is the only comparison I have. Been driving a 2014 Pilot since then and have been wanting to get back to a manual. I test drove a manual JL prior to ordering and was blown away by how much smoother it was than the TJ. I've only been driving the Gladiator around town and have been very impressed. Am not taking it on the interstate until I clear 500 miles. Reverse is very simple with the collar lift. I turn off the ESS the second I start the car, otherwise, I felt like I was stalling. ESS is honestly pretty straight forward, but I have been getting 20mpg without it, and that's with about 50% of my miles in the mountains so far.
I wonder what the logic is with putting ESS on manual transmission or for any car really? Does it really save you THAT much in gas that the technology is worth putting on every car. I purposefully turn it off in my Cherokee bc it’s annoyance as hell.

It has been discussed many times but here is the short answer. 7 seconds is the break even time for ESS. Stopped shorter and it uses more gas to turn it on and off. Longer and you are saving gas. ESS with a manual is way better than an auto. You control when it engages and when it doesn’t. Short stop, leave the clutch pedal on the floor and the stick in gear ESS will not turn the Jeep off. Longer stop like a light, put it in neutral and release the clutch, Jeep turns off.

The logic is we are as a human race need to do better for our planet. Where I live we had 2 air quality warnings this week. Being advised not to workout outside is annoying as hell if you ask me. ESS is a small step to address a larger problem and it won’t be around long as better solutions will be implemented.

Thank you and I appreciate the reply.

Now the question in everyone's head. What would you be willing to give up or pay additional for if the same color M/T model showed up in your area?....
Nothing, no concessions, no premiums. I want the product I ordered for the price I negotiated. I'd love to add in a timely manner...

I think the planet will be around a lot longer than our Republic but i appreciate you pointing out the manual transmission allows us to wrest control from the ESS despot.

I mean yes the planet will be around but it's already pretty wrecked from us. Anthropogenic effects on the planet are widespread and well documented and idling pollution is definitely a problem. Im glad they're doing this and more cars need this.

I don't get the hate for ESS. I rented a manual transmission van in France with ESS. It took all of 5 minutes in Paris traffic to get use to. Drove 1500 miles around France and it never felt intrusive. If it saves a bit of gas or cuts down on idle pollution all the better.

I’m officially in talks with my dealer about just taking a black auto on the lot instead of waiting who knows how much longer on my manual Granite Crystal grey one. I just don’t want to miss any more of the summer and the auto is very nice for what it is.
(Yes, I am replying to myself...)
I can't do it. My Gladiator just has to be a manual. I will keep on waiting. It's better to do it right and wait than to lose patience and settle because I know I'd regret having two pedals.

I keep saying you’ve waited this long...I’m around Dayton what’s your dealer? I went with Dave Dennis.

So what your saying is...that it’s a race for delivery!

When did you order?
Bring it on, sucka! I ordered on 6/24. Sport S in Granite Crystal Metallic with the bed liner, Alpine, Soft Top and, obviously, manual trans. You?

I think you got me beat... ordered 5/1 White Rubicon, premium soft top, heat package, spray in bed and tow package.

But hopefully good news soon to the rubicon boys I’ve been approved for shipping a few days ago!
