Okay. Not my understanding though. No offense meant.

Here's my take: safety is control.

We've got an emergency brake for the downhill control.
We've got the clutch for disengaging tires (no spin).

Harder? Sure.
Better driving fun? You bet.

Automatic slips like all hell under most conditions, break modulation is like stopping butter from melting, it's still slick.

Power steering is nice but you don't need it.
are you saying manual doesnt include power steering?

No,I think I meant if you are on a hill and not under power you can still turn the wheel if the key is in the on position, using the clutch in and out to maybe even start back up. But if you lose power in an auto you are stuck where you sit. I'm not sure how these new JT's work though. If you lose power is it possible to steer? IDK. Uphill you can use the clutch to completely disengage power, no slippage. In an auto, tires keep moving unless neutral. Anyway, manual more fun imo, and more control in tight spots.

This thread seems to veering off topic from ratings to manual v. Auto debate. Different strokes for different folks. I prefer manual but respect the smoothness, tow capacity and convenience of The modern 8 speed auto. A key feature of Jeeps available in 4lo with manual to avoid Offroad issues from the owners manual ....
Four-Wheel Drive Models Only
In 4L mode, if the vehicle is stalled, the engine will start regardless of whether or not the clutch pedal is pressed to the floor. This feature enhances off-road performance by allowing the vehicle to start when in 4L without having to press the clutch pedal. The “4WD Low Indicator Light” will illuminate when the transfer case has been shifted into this mode.

Back to regularly scheduled programming ...

this is partly a tuner question and partly a manual trans rating/review question
anyone out there do an engine swap or more tame chip/tuning, intake, exhaust to improve engine power with a manual trans and if so, how did the manual trans hold up? So far? Seems like chip, exhaust would give me around 20lb ft and 20 hp give or take and this would be well within the 6speed manual trans ratings and shouldn’t cause any issues. Thoughts? Anyone do this?

My uneducated opinion is that 20+ all around won't hurt a thing on the JT M/T.

Thanks. I tend to agree. I might end up being a guinea pig for this with a chip and exhaust. Still hoping someone out there has done this and has reviews/reports/suggestions.

Look closer and you’ll see the transmission is rated in Newton-meters (Nm) not lb-ft.

370 Nm coverts to 272 lb-ft
Good catch.

Back “in the day” we would pull 4 cylinder F- head motors with 72 HP and 115 FP torque and replace them with Chevy V8s. The T90 3 speeds held up fine. I don’t think another 20 will even make a blip on the radar of the new trannys. Just my 2 cents.

I would venture to say the transmission would hold a good bit more than what it’s rated at. The clutch is the weak point.

Yeah. T90s were tough and simple and really have your left leg a work out. I don’t worry about another 20hp really.

that is my thinking too. There is always this. https://www.quadratec.com/p/centerf...l-jeep-wrangler-jl-and-gladiator-jt-KDF157077

Stock clutch seems to be the weakest point.
