You should do what you want, that's what you want to hear right? It's not my jeep and you don't live near me, so no skin off my nose.
I'm not sure how my question resulted in you assuming I wanted to hear something specifically. That's a bit of an obtuse comment. I was sharing my thought process on trying to understand the impact of towing something 2,000 lbs over my limit even though it seems like it could be fine (key word seems). Shadowspapa brought up valid points which then resulted in me thinking about these things some more. It also got me looking into the SAE and brake differences. For example part of the SAE testing for towing capabilities is making sure it can remain parked on a 12% grade. Do i intend to park on a 12% grade, no, but what if I have an emergency and need to pull over on a 12% grade? Taking time to hear constructive input helps to see and learn about things I might not be thinking about, which then can/will influence my final decision.

Towing threads are all touchy business, You maybe able to generate power to move the weight, but have you considered the ability of your jeep to stop as needed when overload, or about stability when you have to make a sudden change of direction and you are 2000lb over? Is your cooling up to the task of shedding all the heat that comes with sustained high rev or boosted power? There are more aspects to towing then just getting the object moving, but most people just focus on the power aspect only and seem to know best and want opinions that support their conclusions.

So i was giving you what most people around here want to hear ;)

totally agree, the light bulb went on right after I realized there's a lot more to it than just power. I'm great at jumping my jeep, but towing is a whole new thing for me ha

I'd be more concerned about the clutch - it's not "how low 1st gear is" but the torque applied through the clutch. There's multiple reasons the tow rating for a manual JT is so much lower.

2,000 pounds over tow rating - you are asking for trouble with the truck and piss-poor handling at best.
Just don't get into an accident. No, they can't ticket you - but if someone gets hurt, you will be investigated.
You'll be really pushing that truck hard. And if you do it, you'd better think about deleting anything you have posted on the web about it LOL

But seriously, one way they protect the clutch is indeed to cut the torque applied - you hit any hills with it, it's going to be quite a load.

Actually, it does. How do you think they deal with trailers with no trailer tow mode switch? They do detect the torque applied.

And this device takes advantage of what your truck's systems know about you - that your towing don't realize it knows about your towing.......

Using the OBDII port, it reads the info your truck has and can tell you your tongue weight and trailer weight just by connecting to your vehicle and driving it.
It's amazing what these trucks do and can do - and know about you.

I noticed a total difference in how mine behaves based on whether or not my car hauler has a load on it. No load, it's like no trailer and shifts and handles like crap. Put a car on it and the shifting and other things are totally different - it's like a different truck when it detects weight.

Think that truck doesn't know?

PRODUCT DETAILS
BetterWeigh wirelessly links to your smartphone to display real-time vehicle and trailer weights. It easily plugs into any standard vehicle diagnostic port (OBD-II) under the steering wheel, and uses Bluetooth to connect to your Apple or Android phone. It then sends a live readout of all weights related to towing and hauling, including the gross weight of your vehicle and trailer, cargo, payload, tongue weight, pin weight and weight distribution. This streamlines the towing setup process for any vehicle-trailer combination and promotes maximum safety on the road. The compact, portable design also allows for easy transfer from one vehicle to another.
Okay, that is some crazy voodoo black magic!

I believe you. Technology is mind blowing.

Question: can the jscan or the Mx+ thingy pull this information?

Max weight and dry weight are two things. Your are "slated" to pull a max weight 6,000 camper, does this mean you are just doing it once or this is going to be your regular camper? If slated means I'm moving it from A to B once for a friend , and can go with dry weight with no water of say 4,500 pounds that is a big difference, "probably" comes to mind. For your regular camper tow vehicle towing 6,000 pound camper with minimal occupants in truck with a manual, that is due to get supercharged in near future, the tranny will be the weak link. perhaps a Centerforce clutch replacement or something should be in store soon., or pass on the camper in mind and go lighter......Jack
