Hello all, I purchased the above tires (4 + spare) in the 255/85/17 size in 2024, have put roughly 15k miles on them of very normal use (light offroading, no rock crawling). Have enjoyed the performance, noise, and driveability of these tires.. But starting roughly 1 month ago, i'm having some serious vertical tears only appear on my inner side wall. I've now had 2 tires fail, with another showing early symptoms of the above. I went back to Discount tire where I purchased, who contacted Mickey Thompson and they're unwilling to do anything other than use the Discount warranty i purchase. Posting pics of both tires, both have failed while driving and i honestly don't feel comfortable putting my family in this car anymore and getting on the highway as when they let go, the air comes out almost immediately and it's not fun...

Paying 2k for tires, and then being told i need to spend another $1500 now to replace is not a fun time.. anyone have experience with this? ty for any thoughts..

😳 In all my years of using MT / AT tires I have never seen this happen on tires that are not abused. Mickey Thompson's have a pretty good reputation, but this is pretty bad for it to just tear like this.

I wrote the first one off as an anomaly, but the second one this past week made me check all the tires and i'm finding this. My gladiator gets mostly used as a daily driver, and go between to my lake house that's an hour away. Being in the midwest, we don't have a TON of off road options readily available, but i go on the wisconsin adventure trail, etc and do overlanding type activities with some friends.. These tires aren't abused, and I've never had this happen on any of my other trucks... it's concerning...

I'd be concerned too and would try and call Mickey Thompson's corporate head quarters immediately, only because they can say if it was that much of a concern how come you didn't contact us sooner...

MT is made by Goodyear which is not exactly known for their quality
Personally for me, every set of Mickey Thompson tires I ever owned were awesome on and off road, no complaints here.

MT was a subsidiary of Cooper Tire, which as of a few years ago was purchased by GY. Of course that doesn't matter as the company, this tire and the manufacturing process were already established at that time. At the time the only thing they changed that was proven or documented was a reduction in available sizes for the Cooper lines. Meanwhile MT expanded the Baja line size availability at that time.

GYs acquisition has no effect of the quality of Coopers products, unless of course you have a clear and empirical case to make beyond your opinion.

OP, do you have more pictures?

Below the sidewall separation there is some damage as well, I'd love to see more of the tires. As it is, which is brief with the one picture, this looks like a defect or possibly contact of some sort, although thats hard to believe. Also very strange to occur on the inner side of the tire.

Ive ran 3 sets for about a total of 80-90k miles and had no issues at all, so this is unusual IMO.

Quality processes are ever evolving and absolutely subject to change based on executive ownership. Seen it happen countless times. The extraordinary claim would be that nothing changed with ownership change.

Yes I have more pics, the one is where the tire folded after this happened right below that tear. It sat for a bit on a completely deflated tire after going from 36 psi to zero on the highway.

I'm showing the tears on 3 separate tires right now, and haven't hit anything with the inside and definitely not on all 3. I've also done regular rotations on these.

I'll post pics tomorrow, and I'm also planning on calling MT tomorrow. I tried going through discount tire first which is who I purchased through, they said they called MT and were told only the warranty (equivalent to roughly $125/tire) would be covered.

That is an insane response from MT. What's with the warranty and $125/tire? Did you purchase the replacement certs from Discount Tire (or just one?)?

Have you reached out directly to MT?

I did that when I first purchased a set of 37ā€ BBATs. Two of them wouldn’t balance. They responded quickly, contacted my shop, worked through some things with the shop and sent two new ones that day.

They are the best tires I’ve had on a Jeep, especially for this size.

Screw the warranty , I would not drive the truck with three tires showing like that after two high speed failures, Discount tire should step up right away and then deal with MT. At some point go buy other tires .

But with all the different types of GoodYear tires I’ve had come on new vehicles, or replaced with new GoodYear tires. I’ve never had a tire failure. The only issue I have had with each one has been loss of traction, especially in rain and snow after the first 1/3 tread has worn away. Then I usually replace with the same tire at 1/2 wear, just because of the fact they have always brought me home, in all types of challenges, from rough terrain to overloaded in rough terrain. Namely Wranglers for vehicles and Endurance trailer tires.
