Misfire and flashing engine light

I had a flashing engine light, took my gladi to the dealership and per the diagnostic code it was cylinder 5 misfire. I was told is will probably need a new camshaft but they won’t know until they take it apart and stop looking. Jeep has 52k miles….dies this sound right, they way dealership talked it sounds like a common problem. I am the second owner of the vehicle and was told I should have some warranty coverage. Also….can I expect more problems down the road. It it time to do a trade in ?!?

It's hit and miss, but it happens. Many higher mileage Jeeps on here with no issues, and more than one that have been through a couple camshafts under 100K.

Can you expect more problems down the road? Hard to say. I've seen them be 'one and done' and I've seen them start eating a cam every 25K miles.

A new Gladiator is entirely likely to eat a cam as well - but it has more warranty.

I would think your power train warranty would kick in and cover this issue but I am aware also the dealership has to advise you that you are on the hook for diag… if they can show you haven’t maintained the engine as per manufacturer recommendations they can try to deny your claim. The question is how do you feel about the documentation you have to provide this maintenance history? If you have it then have them tear it down! If they start to play games with you with proper documentation then go above their head. I wouldn’t write the truck off because of this one situation.

The service manager asked me about maintenance on the truck. I am the second owner having bought it with 15k miles. I told him since I bought it I am very diligent about maintenance. He said he would pull a car fax on it and I did state I would get the service records if needed. I am so angry that I have maintained my vehicle but yet will still pay for something that is not my fault.
