Mismatch spare??

2020 JT, just added a 2 inch spacer lift. Going to 35’s on tires but my spare is like new but is factory 33. Can I still use it in a pinch if I turn traction control off? Do I just need to bite the bullet and buy another 35 for a spare. Mostly used as wife’s mall crawler with some light off road.

Its fine to do that but treat it like a donut meaning next tire shop is ur tire shop.

Find the cheapest 35 you can find and throw it under the truck. To me it’s worth the peace of mind…. But I am up 2 tire sizes from the factory 33.

I'm not going to suggest that I do everything right, but for me there's a tipping point between is something 'ok' in a pinch to 'I knew is should have taken care of that when I had the chance'. I'll confess that I have previously gone out of town with some 315/70R17's drivers with a 285/70R17 spare and I had told myself I'd just drive slowly into the next tire shop if I had a problem with one of the 315's. I believe the radius difference was about 3/4" between those tires; and there is no doubt that someone could make a case that would be bad for a differential at high speeds over a long distance. ...Thus, the idea that I should be chained to fixing my tire issue at a reasonably close shop.

However, I recently switched my 315's to a true flotation size 35" and the radius / diameter differences seemed to double compared to my original spare. So, I decided that I had to make the switch and just wouldn't close my eyes to the unnecessary risk of going out of town without a true 35" spare.

It sorta makes me think of how I've heard some say that there's only 1 reason to run out of gas which is "NO MONEY". So, knowing some who have had tire problems on road trips and thinking I can afford the right sized spare, I just decided there was no reason for me to tempt fate and make my life any more difficult than it needs to be.

With a limited slip diff I certainly wouldn't chance it but that's just me, cheaper to buy another tire than to fix a messed up limited slip diff.

As has been posted in other threads, just put the spare on the passenger front where the FAD is. The revolution difference from the size won't be a problem there. The spare is intended just to get you safely to the closest tire center. I drove my first Gladiator more than 4.5 years without ever dropping the spare. I'm hoping for the same with the second one.

So what about spare wheel with mismatching back spacing? Tire size is same, but I run MT wheels which are 17x9 with -12mm backspacing.

I mean should I get a cheap steel wheel to put up in the spare area, that matches the size and back spacing?

Different backspacing is fine for a temporary spare.

Just pretend your track bar needs adjusted and you haven't got to it yet.

Mr Bill stated it factually. the down side to that resolve is say for instance a rear tire blows. one would need to remove the right front and put it on the blown rear. the spare would go on the right front if you have the front axle disconnect. aside from your time, this method is free.
