Don't have my truck yet but thinking incorporating a couple of these clips into the design may make it seem more oem

Well I've had my JT for a little over a week now. I regularly transport guitar amps in the bed of the truck in order to get to my gigs, so I was interested in finding a solution to make the cover lock down, when the tailgate is closed.

Here is what I came up with.

2x M6 - 1.0 x 20mm Pan Head Machine Screws - $1.17 at Home Depot
https://ibb.co/wJR98bh

2 Pieces of Paracord, 1 foot each, trim to length.

Insert the M6 machine screws into the existing holes in the side of the bed. Leave enough sticking out so the paracord can loop over the bolt head.
https://ibb.co/8Bk9y7h

Loop the paracord around the metal braces that are part of the soft tonneau cover, and tie a knot to secure. Adjust knot length to preference.
https://ibb.co/Xb81mQt

Loop paracord over the exposed bolt head, and your all set!

And your done!
Damn, can't see photos even if I click the links.

LMAO, that makes it super easy. Close cover, snap buckle, tighten strap, done. Lmfao. I was over engineering it too @ralphjjr

So if i read this correctly, you are wondering if there is a way to lock the Tonneau on the truck when the tailgate is closed and lock because even with it locked and closed the "weekend warrior" mode can be engaged and then fully opened?

Is this correct?

We're all still debating about the stock roll-up cover that comes with the gladiator. Although it does have a mechanism that locks it down several inches from the tailgate, it doesn't seem like there is anything that actually locks it fully down. So some can easily pry it open even when the tailgate is closed, and the locks "clicked."

What ends up happening is that the "weekend warrior" position can be engaged easily. Not sure if it means we are doing something wrong...

this explain it a bit better:

So @BestopTeam are we doing something wrong?

!
Are these holes actually tapped M6? The machine screws I got don’t really bite. I had to dig the bedliner out of mine. Just thought I’d check before going bigger and making it work.

An idea that actually works.
Thanks to @Austin Himself for this one.
This works as is, or you could use it as a starting point to over-engineer it, like I will. The point is, you can thread an M6 bolt/screw/eyelet, whatever, into that existing hole.[/QUOTE]

I plan to mount a gate hook to the short brace on the tonneau flip section, and hook it into the same existing screw hole you put the screw in for your paracord. Then, you can latch the flip section down, by hooking the gatehook into the hole, or quickly unlatch it, to roll the tonneau back. But when the tailgate is locked, the tonneau will be securely locked down as well. ;{

Here's my install of the @WildJD roll-up tonneau cover lock: (from my build page):

I liked @WildJD's tonneau cover lock, so did the same to mine. Drilled a hole on the tonneau cover bracket 1/2" down from the center of the rivet. Threaded in a 3" hook into each bracket. Had to slightly enlarge the hole on the side of the bed due to the bed liner thickness to accommodate the hooks. Once installed the "weekend warrior" end of the tonneau cover cannot be pulled up.

If someone really wanted in, they can get in by cutting the top (just like breaking a vehicle window), but this is secure when the tailgate is locked.

Great idea ! I followed your directions and it worked perfectly. The only thing I added is that I painted the hardware black before the final installation. It locks down the tonneau cover perfectly and is very unobtrusive. Really a simple genius idea ! Love it ! Congrats !
