I’m running the 275 under the steering wheel like several have mentioned. The ghost antenna mounted at the cowl with cheap Amazon mount. I did however get a rj45 extension and run the mic off of it mounted to the right side of the dash.

I have a 275, if the 5xx was out I would have gotten it.

To add, now that is is out, if I got a 5xx for a present I would not take the time to swap them. I would use the other unit in a different rig or put it in my trailer.

Here is how I mounted my Midland MXT275 radio and antenna. I tapped into the 12v plug accessory feed to power the GMRS radio. The 275 power draw is within the capacity of that switched circuit. Using the 575 would require going to the battery or higher power relay under the hood. When not wheeling, it easily and securely stores under the rear seat.

I initially got the 275 due to fact I will barely even use it which has been true as I mainly listen. It was mounted on the passenger side of my console and my President Bill II CB was mounted on the left side.

The "more power" bug hit me and I upgraded to the 575 and its mounted underneath the driver seat and my Uniden CMX760 is mounted underneath the passenger seat. Mic extensions are ran under the carpet to the lower dash cubby. I drilled a hole big enough for the plug in part to fit through and secured the wires with a zip tie. The heads of the extensions pretty much fit into place by themselves.

Initially the 575 wasnt putting out the max watts it could put out and it was sent back to Midland which was fixed. 5 watts on the lower channels and 50 watts on the upper. Very pleased with Midlands customer service.

I just installed a Midland MXT275 in my 23 JTR. I went a slightly different route mounting it under the dash on the drivers side. I ran the power and antenna through the drivers side weather plug (I believe this plug is only on automatics). It's a tight squeeze but everything fit. Im new to radios so hopefully everything i did was right (heard CB radios are very sensitive to how you run the antennas, not sure if GMRS is or not). I did have to buy an ethernet extension to angle the cord to the passnger side. Can hide the mic behind the carpet if I plan to have the doors off out in town. And if im afraid of kicking the ethernet cord plug hanging down I'll unplug it when not in use and tuck it up in the dash(i dont think ill have an issue with that). I did have to drill the midland mount but I didn't drill anything on the jeep except the plastic plug through the firewall. The bolt throught the mount was an oem bolt. Hope this helps.
