Need a shock upgrade?

I got tired of going 1/2 way so I just got he Fox 2.5 adjustable with remote res and had them tuned by accutune . For what I do they are way overkill especially for the front. The rear needs a stiffer shock. Some nice Fox 2.0 would probably do me just fine.

Let me ask the group about shock rebuilding…how many have rebuilt theirs in their garage/shop? Vs. sending them back to the OEM to rebuild…and what did they charge you for that service? An inquiring mind wants to know…thanks

Unless it's a high end reservoir shock, sending them on for a rebuild is nearly the same price as a new set of shocks.

If you have already done it, I had a lot of improvement with an upgraded rear sway bar. I went with the Whiteline product. Running a 2.5" lift, Leitner Rack with full length side boxes and RTT. Running the Eibach shocks which allegedly are just a tad softer than the Bilstiens.

Fox's in-house rebuild services are actually very reasonable, and for a little extra money they can revalve for you... I was actually surprised their in-house rebuilds are cheaper than some of the "other guys" who advertise a lot...

Just spoke with one of the guys at Accutune. He said depending on my weight the Fox2.0 with their tune on them is going to be my best route.

I was looking in that direction as well, but I talked with someone at MC and he said the big res. shocks like the blacks and fox 2.5 elite are way over kill for most people not running hard and fast.

I am just looking for something with more control on the road with the correct length to still give some pretty good extension. I think for me the reds would be great off road and might end keeping them to swap on before big crawling trips depending on what I buy.

The 2.5 would be a great option and the dsc will show you to dial it in for on road driving giving you what you want and then you can soften it up for trail use. I run the fox factory 3.0 racing series and love it

I am sure the 2.5 and 3.0's are fantastic shocks, but from what MC and Accutune have both told me they are way overkill for most Jeeps. I like fancy bling stuff but at 3.5k or better for shocks I might go the 2.0 route.

Lot of unsprung weight but not terribly heavy. Currently not running with a spare but will at times in the future.

Jeep currently has MC Rocksport reds. They just seem very loose/soft which at times I do not mind. But get cruising down a road at anything over 40mph and I get alot of rocking back and forth, drives straight up the road very nice but for me seems way too loose. Also has anti rocks front and rear, thinking about putting the OE sway bar setup back on as well.

What would be a good shock to pair with this setup, something that will stiffen it up just a bit? Was thinking about the Fox 2.5 non res. shocks or maybe the Falcon's but this they might not play nice with my Genright inners.

Not going to be doing any fast offroad stuff mainly just limited street driving and trailering it to off road areas.

I have used the Bilstein 5100’s on numerous vehicles and have always been happy with them. I have a set on my dually and they do great when towing, as well as normal driving. Get them powder coated orange against corrosion.

Just bought it, the orange might be going but the wife likes it.

I have the 5100's on my 2 door and like them. Just thinking with this heavier and more capable truck I wanted something just a bit more.

I agree with your wife. I like it too!
I understand what you’re saying. Adjustable might be your best bet. Especially the ability to change from normal driving, towing, back roads, and off road.

I have had the fox 2.5 and 3.0 factory series. Both dsc and res. It's the way to go as you can adjust for the weight high and low so you always have a good ride. I could never go back to anything else now

The Ohlin shocks have compression and rebound adjustable with reservoir. they look good and I would consider them as they adjust to the soft side better possibly. .
