So i have a ladder racks that i might start with at first just because
Started with these rated at 800 lbs. Can find them for $200 online, I got mine at Lowes.

Went to this aluminum rack from Voodoo-

Have since changed to the 58" bars so the rack is as long as the bed.
I am very pleased with their products! They now make a rack that goes over most soft caps. If I were buying from new, I would buy that.

After doing Rausch Creek with it on, I now take the RTT off for trails. Trails can be tight and worrying about the RTT and trees makes it exponentially more difficult.
Aerodynamics with the RTT over the top, about 1-1.5 mpg difference. Also was before I learned it likes high test.

Before my wife corrected the geometry on the annex. (She shortened the sides 10") It is a now defuncted Toro RTT.

Oh, can't say enough about Zero Breeze portable a/c. That was August in Orlando, top tent was cold, annex was decent and where my daughter slept.
I have a set of those ladder racks that I will probably start with considering it is a big investment to get in to this hobby.

Perfect! Only problem was that I could not figure out a tonneau with that rack. (Didn't try too hard) Bought a roll up cover for a Colorado for $120 on Amazon. The Jeep label adds a few bucks.
I did some trails with that rack, camped on it a handful of times with my wife and I up top. It was solid.

KB Voodoo three-quarter rack with the factory tonneau cover. RoofNest on top. I've been using it for two seasons. Did a loop through US continental and half a dozen trips up and down the East Coast. Maybe 150-200 nights up there. Even ran trails from Sedona to Uwharrie with it. No problems at all. I can set it up in 3 minutes in rain storm.

Downside is the tonneau cover is more a slide than a roll-up. Rack won't allow it to roll. Of course, any RTT is no fun at 3 am when the kidneys call.

Good luck and enjoy.

Picked up some used Voodoo bars from a member here, rehabbed them a bit, and moved my Tepui RTT from my trailer to the truck for fall adventures when a trailer isn't needed. The Tepui is 72x48x12 and is a rugged version so it's heavy. I'm looking for a deal on a 56" tent that would be lighter and more fitting for 1-2 person trips. Love the idea of the tent without a separate cover, that'd be slick. With the tent installed on the bars, the clearance isn't enough to roll up the tonneau I got from Quadratec, but it isn't a deal breaker.

You'll get a ton of answers as to "what is the best". For me, BIG is best. I NEED a lot of room, so a big tent was ordered. You can't find a California king bed in a hard top tent. Setup and tear down really isn't that bad. I do it by myself in just a few minutes, I'm camping, what is the hurry to put everything away super fast?

Reviving this thread, since I am in the market for a hard shell RTT but have a half rack so I need a side loader. Don't mind a little overhang, wondering who has some good Memorial Day sales going on, so many options out there it's tough to choose. I want a big enough sleeping area.

If you don't mind budging to a soft one, CVT had a massive sale on their Pioneers last Fall. Bunch of us bought them at Rock bottom pricing but many had regrets. Post in the WTB section and see what happens.
