The highlighted part of the document is from the Mopar Parts & Accessories warranty. It applies to purchased parts. The 'first replacement warranty part' is not a purchased part.

A part replaced under the original new vehicle warranty is not a purchased part, it is a warranty replacement part. Therefore, it is covered under the new vehicle warranty and it will get the remainder of that warranty.

So, if the trans is replaced with a new trans under the new vehicle warranty, the new trans only gets the remainder of the vehicle warranty.

I disagree but tapping out on this. We are in a circular argument.

I cannot see someone having a transmission for example be replaced at 59999 miles under vehicle warranty and then drive it around the block and return with it blown up at 60001 miles and told to get bent because they are now out of the basic vehicle warranty and there is no new part warranty extending beyond that.

Whether this applies or not here our warranty covers a failed component under the warrantable period of a new engine for that warrantable period only, when factory warranty is exhausted on complete engine so does the warranty on exchanged component. This is a secondary purpose of extended warranties. If a component is exchanged outside of warranty then of course it has its own warranty which varies by type of component. We have what’s called “policy” which is if something is within a certain amount of hours/miles after warranty expiration or it was a consecutive failure to the original failure under warranty can be applied for. This is something that may be a thing with auto dealers, but I doubt it I’ve never had to tap that idea before. They’d likely rather you just buy new car. Car companies aren’t built around keeping old running and more peddling new constantly.

My tranny has had a loud thunk when shifting out of park since day 1. I cannot tell if it's transmission or slop in a u-joint/rear end. Hopefully the latter.

If you “buy” replacement parts then yes they come with a 12/12-24/24 or whatever parts warranty is offered. If you replace a transmission or engine under the 60K mile power train warranty then yes if the the vehicle has 59999 miles and the new one takes a crap 5 miles later then “ technically “ you are SOL!

Now comes reality with surveys and all the other BS ! Likelihood is they will replace it again under those highly unlikely conditions. BUT ! They technically don’t have to. So post 60K miles you are on a “goodwill” consideration.

Update on Transmission fix.
After 1 week in the dealer, i have been told that there is now a bulletin out, 21-039-24, for the dealer to fully rebuild the zf 8 speed. (Previously thought to be unserviceable). They now have authorized me a rental car. Waiting to see when the rebuild kits will be avaiable.
Any thoughts out there on if the rebuild is a better option than the new tranny????

Interesting. I looked for the entire bulletin, but couldn't find it.

Maybe this problem is more common than some of us think. There wouldn't be a bulleting for something that's not somewhat common.

As for rebuild vs new, I'd usually rather have new. Unless the rebuild comes with improved parts that a new assembly won't have.
