So regarding these rear switch panels being added, I found that even though some say waterproof they really are not. My panel will be exposed to all of the elements especially water. Has anyone found or is using a waterproof cover over it? I want to use this panel specifically for my lights on my overland rack.

thanks
West Marine (or similar boating store) has a lot of electrical components like this that are intended for wet applications.

Great thread. I'm planning a similar project. For what it is worth, I replace CLAs with Anderson Powerpole plugs. I will be using this instead of a cigarette lighter plug. This kit provides the parts need to convert CLAs to Anderson powerpole plugs. I also made an adapter using a female CLA so that I can plug in CLAs if necessary.

As well as being goofy (the second row is shifted left one column.)
But you'll notice that the smallest wire it recommends is 16ga.
18ga. is speaker wire, not power wire.
And over 80A. on 10ga.? It's gonna get real warm.

You need to put a character in that first block of row 2 so it doesn’t shift data to the left.

This is why I wished @BuiltRight did their bedside cover with flat face and a smaller logo sunken in along the edge... It would be an awesome piece of kit for custom stuff back there.
I'm planning to have some made with two or four holes. Talking to the fabricator tomorrow. Anyone else interested in buying something like this?

Plan C:
If I blow that fuse, I'll replace the fuse, and connect my 6AWG wire to the solenoid I'm using for my winch. I can't imagine a scenario where I'd use the rear power outlet & the winch at the same time. So, lil' old Aux 3 will control my solenoid which will provide battery power on heavy duty wires to my winch as well my air compressor in the rear.
Something like Plan C is what I am currently planning. I got a 2 way 500AMP winch Solenoid and a relay. I will run Aux3 to NormallyConnected (87A) contact of relay to switch solenoid to compressor, and flip the relay on with AUX4 to swtch the solenoid to power the winch. Need to have AUX3 and AUX4 for switching this way, but I think it will work for me.

Not yet. The fabricator is still working on it. However, I found components that I like better. The plate will likely have two components in it, one Anderson Power Pole and a USB charging outlet. So, in the plate will have square holes rather than round ones. They are not water tight, I'm working on that.

I like the Anderson Pole outlet because it can handle up to 45 amps. I have a female CLA to Anderson Pole adaptor to accommodate CLA equipment but I convert most of the equipment I get to Anderson Pole.

Thanks for the link, I see I did use overkill when I wired my rear winch cable and secondary battery in my XJ and have kept it up with my JT wiring.
Better overkill than under-sized...

My logic. :like: if 14 ga works I go with 12 or 10 but I've wired some lights almost 30 years ago that still work wiring wise.

I now have my main front to back wire terminating at an Anderson style connector for my air compressor. I tied into that line for a pair of 12v cigarette outlets with a 30amp inline fuse as well as a double USB outlet with a 5amp inline fuse. This is all currently connected to my Aux 1 wire in the engine compartment (with its 40amp fuse).

Wired & ready to test before mounting.

With aux 1 pressed.
Bed power volts.jpg

Voltage drop while running my compressor (kept engine running throughout test). I think the voltage drop is mainly caused by the lower gauge factory wire used for aux 1. The wire for aux 1 seemed much smaller than the 10AWG I used for my connections in the rear.
Bed power volt drop.jpg

I only aired down 10psi, then back up ... and didn't time it. If I'm not happy with the performance, I might switch my engine bay wiring to get max power to my compressor. I'd put a ring terminal on the heavy gauge wire I ran to the engine bay to connect it to the solenoid along with my winch. If so, the winch & bed power will both be run from the battery via aux 3. I can't foresee an instance where I'd use both the winch and the bed outlet at the same time, so I imagine that would be an acceptable wiring option.

Supplied screws wouldn't 'self tap' despite pre-drilling holes almost as large as the outer edges of the threads. I used some 1/2" self tapping stainless screws for now. I may end up painting the heads of them.

What’s the red connection for? Pardon my ignorance.

that's some type of Anderson power connector, maybe for an auxiliary battery?

Anderson connectors are a fairly universal high-current low voltage connector. They are used in a lot of industrial applications. In a vehicle they can connect things like heavy duty air compressors, batteries, and other high-current applications. I have one on my RV battery to disconnect it in storage.
