Has anyone replaced their brake pads yet? I have 42k on my LE, starting to get a grinding noise during braking from the rear (squeelers are present but never squeeled). Anyways, assuming it’s the pads, hard to tell without removing the tire. Checked Advanced Auto, Napa, O Reilly’s, none of them even list rear pads on their websites….with very limited options for fronts…has anyone done a pad replacement yet? Do you have to go with $200 worth of Mopar pads?

TIA as always

Rockauto has several different Powerstop pads listed for the rear, although I have no idea if their online catalog is correct: https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog...l+v6,3444100,brake+&+wheel+hub,brake+pad,1684

IMO, I'd just put Mopar pads back on it. My local dealer shows them at about $90 and they include hardware. The only weird thing is that there are 2 different parts listed, Part number 68376749AD and 68376749AE. The AD shows for 2020 & 2021, but the AE shows for 2021 only. The unusual thing is that the later suffix usually replaces the earlier one, but the AE does not specify that it replaces AD. However, the AD shows that it replaces the AB and AC versions. So, just make sure to give them your VIN and have them verify the part number.

Totally forgot about RockAuto, but as you said, I’ll probably just go with the Mopar for now, a lot of the “Mopar Direct” sites have them for a little less than $90, plus shipping, but with the same issue as stated (AD/AE), damn I miss the $20 pad days on my Honda Civic commuter….

Another odd thing, on Mopar’s “official” store / site…,if I scroll through and select my vehicle via year / make / model and select “Launch Edition”, It brings up the AD part as my rear pads, when I select the part for details, It says It does not fit my Jeep….if I just select “Rubicon” trim instead of “Launch Edition” or type in my VIN, same part comes up (AD), but in the details It says It fits my Jeep…

Definitely pull the wheels and take a look before you buy new pads. Rear brake pads are mostly along for the ride. Thus, they should last a LONG time. You might have some debris in the caliper/pad area causing the noise. If your pads are in fact very thin, something is wrong. No way should they wear that fast.

Less than 50K miles? Wow. Especially rears. I've had truck brakes go way over 80K and that's with a lot of towing (and a trailer with no brakes.)

That's not likely to be brake pad wear - the rears do about 40% under normal conditions, less under stops with more weight transfer (that from my brake training classes). The rear brakes generally are applied later and with less pressure than the fronts.

Well, I must’ve jumped the gun (as many of you have stated), pads look fine, plenty left, more concerning is theirs the possibility that that back of my caliper is sometimes rubbing the inside of my wheel….passenger side rear…I only noticed the noise this morning after driving for about 20min, It then sat for about 2 hours, then drove It again noise gone, after about 15 min intermittent slight metal on metal noise during braking coming to stop…took the wheel off to look…

The guys at the tire shop had shown me this when they were mounting my MT/R’s, their is almost zero room between the calipers and the wheel in the rear…maybe some thermal expansion coupled with uneven roads??

So with all that said…

1) Has anyone else noticed how dangerously tight their calipers are to the ID of their rear wheels (17x7.5), mine have to be rubbing from time to time…?

2)Normal auto parts stores don’t carry rear pads for the Gladiator? Not even warehouse / ship to store options?

Can't comment on #1 as I have 18" wheels.

#2 - not surprising or unexpected. These are relatively new. Brakes, unless there is a malfunction or abuse, etc. don't wear out before 50K miles. Rare are the exceptions to that. That being said, manufacturers of replacement parts, and those they supply, figure average miles driven per year x length of time since initial release of the vehicle/brakes and factor in the numbers of these that are out there.

Truths people don't like to hear -
Of the gladiators that have been sold and the typical use and miles per year - it's simply not worth their investment in money and resources to be making and stocking these things yet.
And a handful of forum members don't a demand make. The forum represents a miniscule percentage of these trucks out there. Most of these trucks are being sold as trucks, not rock climbing specialty vehicles.

I'm glad you confirmed your pads are good to go.

I doubt your caliper is making contact with the barrel of the wheel. While the gap between them is small, there are many examples of less gap in wheel/brake setups. My GT4 is closer to the wheel than the Gladiator and it doesn't touch.

What it does do, and what I suspect you are seeing, is create a nice spot for rocks and stones to get stuck between the caliper and wheel resulting in that scoring you see on the wheel.
