I recently purchased a 2025 Nighthawk that is decidely low-end as far as options. I really didn't care for all of the toys because I wanted to lower the payments. That said, I'm very happy with it since all I really wanted was Satellite radio. I no longer drive for a living (work remote) so the navigation package option that added $4,500 wasn't necessary. But a neighbor told me about Android connectivity to the Jeep radio and thinks I could use Google maps to interface through Bluetooth and get the display to show the map. Have not fiddled around with it yet. But obviously if it worked that way it would require a cell signal which may or may not be available in the wild.

So the other options are subsricing to Trail.com or OnX and maybe download something to my 256GB Samsung flip to use in cases where there is no signal.

What do y'all use when trekking?

Don’t you already have Android Auto standard on your Uconnect?

If your head unit has Android Auto then Google Maps is a good option for navigation. Put it on your phone and connect it to the USB plug in the dash

For trails onX Offroad is a good app to subscribe to, put it on your phone and connect it to the USB plug on the dash.

Yes, just haven't connected it yet.

Thank you!

Thank you. Would the USB port allow the phone to display on the dash? Or do you mean just for power?

It should be a data port so the maps showing on the phone screen should display on the head unit in the dash.

On my 2021 Sport S it's the USB on the right side of the dash next to the window switches.

Thank you, my 2025 Nighthawk has them there as well. I had assumed they were just charging ports.

For your 2025... you should have wireless Android Auto (no data cable needed).
You will need something to keep the phone charged (if needed).

Once you get your phone connected, some of the apps on your phone should just show up in the Uconnect screen. Google...Waze... Music streaming services, etc. I use Carplay exclusively for everything navigation and music (Spotify, Sirius Xm, Amazon, etc)

Trailsoffroad and it will display on the radio with car play or android auto works perfect. Just download the state you want before you go it updates trails.

Well I figured it out after several attempts. The permission needed was on the Google maps app on my phone next to my profile picture and with two taps the display on the truck lit up with the mapping. Thanks to all for your help!.

The Jeep navigation system is junk, has been for years. I use my phone connected through the USB C connection and Android Auto to display on the larger screen. Off road I run a tablet with either COTrex (in Colorado), or Trails Off Road and then back that up with my phone running the other. I have also used onX and Gaia, but I prefer Trails Off Road. I understand that Trails Off Road is a standard app now on Jeep UConnect system, 2024 and newer, I believe.
