The US spec diesel sport/s/willys/overlands do not get wide axles, but do get cast knuckles. As for the original question about the lift- its where the weight is carried. The diesel motor is almost 200 lbs heavier than the 3.6. You need a different front spring rate to handle that weight while in motion. The only difference in the diesel specific lift kits that I've seen is the front springs. The stiffer spring rates help you from nose-diving. Yes you can use springs designed for a gasser, but it won't net the same amount of lift and will not handle as well as springs designed specifically for the diesel. They physically fit the same, but function differently.
