I don’t know if I’m being paranoid but when I’m in town, or at idle in drive, my coolant temp goes from 195 to as high as 222. Usually when that happens, I’m at a railroad crossing or somewhere where I can’t get out and see if the fan is running. I had a jk before and it went up to 214 at first warm up but then seldom got up to 204 and I ran much larger tires and worked the engine harder. I can’t find anything in the manual about the operating temp range. Is this abnormal? Am I overheating?
Any input would be appreciated. Thank you

Hi Lori,
Your dealer may be able to shed some light on this! If you do decide to have them look into this further, please feel free to loop us in. We'd be happy to get you connected with a Case Specialist to assist.

by chance did you work this out?

I started to smell burning antifreeze recently and started to monitor the coolant temperature and noticed the same readings 190 to 220 (around halfway mark and not in the red). The coolant levels are correct and no signs of boilover.
This only occurs in heavy traffic stop and go traffic i am getting my first oil change on monday and will discuss this with service

I had the antifreeze smell outside when its running. My serv dept found out its a clamp that was never tightened (by removing the yellow part). Its all apart rite now.

222? No problem. These are made to run in the 220s.

SMELLING hot is different, SMELLING antifreeze is different. But if there are no leaks and pressure is maintained, with pressure AND antifreeze, it won't boil. Antifreeze raises the boiling point and the pressurization of the system further raises the boiling point.
It's when you lose pressure that you can have issues as loss of pressure could allow boiling.
But it's more important that ever to maintain the proper coolant mix and pressure to prevent boiling.

Normal I think.
I usually run up to 194-200 till I make a turn into my subdivision. By the time I am on the driveway/garage, and ready to shut it, it runs up to 221F (coolant, not oil temps). 2-3 degrees cooler if A/C is running.

I’d bet the t-stat is a 195. That seems to be what Jeep has used for decades.
