Back in the early 90's is when the "jeep wave" went from waving at every jeep, to lifted modified jeeps only, pretty girls in stock jeeps were exempted from this policy.

For me when Jeep started capitalizing on "Jeep Wave" I felt it was kind of disappointing and lame. They kind of took the wind out of it. It became a marketing ploy. It was like the scene in Wayne's world when they took his logo and song and made it corporate.. LOL. Its only a matter of time before Jeep starts marketing ducks. Mark my words... lol
Indeed. There's an entire "duck duck jeep" section in the Amazon jeep store

I have a few ducks on my dash that are getting old to look at. Time to give them away and move on.

Starting daily driving a Jeep (74 Yellow CJ 5 Renegade) in 73. Waved at other Jeeps because we were rare birds on the road, as I did on my motorcycle to other bikers. Parents used to question me,”you’re taking our daughter out in that”? I was in high school then. Good times.

I'm new here and I have a few waving questions.

1) Is the wave only for the Gladiator / Wrangler type of jeep, or does it include Wagoneer, Compass, Renegade, etc?

2) Do passengers wave too, or just drivers?

3) Can the passenger wave while the driver is busy watching traffic and will that fulfill the wave obligation?

4) How energetic should my wife be waving from the passenger seat?

5) Do you wave in the evening, as it's getting dark, even though you can't really see the other driver and they might not see you, but waving is a habit and you do it anyway?

6) If you have the top down do you reach your hand up and wave out the roof?

Thanks...

Corporate trying to get in on the Jeep wave is kind of like when parents try to use their kids' slang, or moms who like their daughters' favorite boy bands.

Saw something years ago about a mom who would always add "LOL" after every text she sent to her daughter. Even mundane texts like "picking up milk on my way home LOL", or "be sure to do your homework LOL"

When asked WTH was with all the LOL's, Mom said she wanted to be hip and use text shorthand like all her daughters friends do when they text each other.

But thought "LOL" meant "Lots Of Love"

That is hilarious. And I hope, in the far future when mom has passed, her daughter will engrave into her tombstone…

“Here lies our beloved Mom. LOL”

I miss the 1st gen Miata when you would just pop up your headlights when another Miata went by.

I don't know if there's an official rule set but I'll share what I try to adhere to:

1: yes, only for Wrangler/Gladiator style, if it's dark watch for a bright slash through the headlights....i mistakenly waved a baby Bronco the other day.

2: driver yes, passenger optional(but appreciate)

3: I'd let that ride

4: yes, don't argue, not going to touch that

5: I do, it does become a habit or more of a reflex, see #1

6: I don't, but if you want to. I rode a motorcycle for years and they've got their similar wave, two fingers down on the left. If you've got the doors off, I think it's agreeable to take a dude wave.

If I waved at every Jeep I see, I would seldom have 2 hands on the wheel.
