Hi Eric, I've followed your journey through Latin America, and I'm anxious to find out about your future trip to Southern Africa. My wife and I have made 6 trips to that part of the world, and have done "self drive safaris" in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Lesotho and Madagascar. We almost always rent a 4X4 camper, but I can't tell you how many times I've said, "I wish we had our Jeep Gladiator". We almost never felt uncomfortable because of our location. We always tried to camp in a national park campground, or a private campground, with an occasional hotel. There is nothing like waking up in the morning to the sound of a lion roaring, throwing all of your gear somewhere in the truck, then rushing off to see if you can spot the lion. It's thrilling. If you have questions, please ask, send me a PM.

We've not had any issues getting parts. Just takes a lot of patience and talking to the right people. The biggest piece of advice for any parts you might need internationally is do not order them yourself. Go to any mechanic who is working on imported vehicles, and order it through them. They are used to dealing with imports and customs. It saves a lot of headache and streamlines the process!
Have you had to fix the Pentastar tick?

My coworker was in captivity twice that I know of. Once in Russia, for missing a train stop. And another time in the middle east.

He doesn't live in fear, even after being held prisoner. Having a wife and child along for the ride, I would stick to tourist and populated areas.

Wish you the best of luck!
That's the plan. There is always a risk. But IMO life without risk isn't worth it. Appreciate the encouragement!
