So i purchased my 6 Speed Manual Gladiator Rubicon from the dealer with 37" tires and about a week ago i decided to put it into 4 low and flip the lockers on, low and behold it began to blink and the lockers would not come on, even with rolling (under power and not). if i put it in 2wd all the lights stop flashing, but the minute i click it back into 4 wheel low the locker lights are still flashing at me. the offroad pages show my front and rear diffs as locked, but i can tell when turning on pavement that they are definitely not locked.

where this situation took an interesting turn is it immediately flashed a P08A6 code and there is nothing on any forum about this CEL. looking it up online shows some off the wall explanation and the dealer says its the neutral safety switch.

anyone else heard anything crazy like this?
being that its a CEL its also turning off the ESS/ Auto Stop/Start, which also disables my rear view camera and my trail cam. Which to me is very dangerous and a big liability for jeep to turn off a safety device (rear view camera) whenever there is a CEL.

anyone have any experience with this?

I'm having the same issue, but I hadn't tried my 4wd since it showed up.

I believe mine is associated with the TAZER Mini that I have installed, so I have a call into their tech support to see if they can help me.

But I TOTALLY agree that it seems ridiculous to shut down the rear view camera if the ESS malfunctions.

This is the first thread I have been able to find addressing this situation.

You might want to look at this forum post: Survey- For those with misfire issues
post. Might not be same issue but ESS and CEL issues are well documented

After two trips to the local dealership, I did some more research and decided to try the oldest trick in the book.............disconnecting the battery(s).

I let it stay disconnected for about thirty minutes to make sure everything reset.

When I reconnected, everything seems to work perfectly now. No error messages and no CELs.

I have this problem and the first dealer said they didn't know what the code was. When the error is thrown my rear camera stops working. As soon as i shut the truck off, then turn back on the code goes away and rear camera works until I drive for about 5 minutes, then the error comes on. It will even do the auto start/stop a few times, but after a few minutes of driving it comes on. I've noticed that the longer i stay out of any gear (I also have the 6 sp. manual) the longer it takes for this error to pop on.

DTC P08A6 - Gear Lever Position Sensor Multiple Sensor Correlation

A re-learn of the top gear learned N/V ratio (engine speed/vehicle speed) is required due to any adjustment made in tire
size in the BCM. If changing to a different size of tires on the vehicle and performing an adjustment, please follow the
steps outlined below after programming new tire size;
1. Reset (PCM) non-volatile RAM (adaptive) either by disconnecting battery power to the GPEC2A module
(PCM) or using diagnostic tool reset PCM
Note; If disconnecting via battery, both batteries must be disconnected in able to reset the PCM.
2. Once reset, in order to learn new top gear N/V ratio;
a. Vehicle speed must be between 40-80mph in top gear (6th)
b. Accelerator pedal position must be greater than 0.392volts
c. Flywheel torque > 75Nm
3. Once achieving the above conditions, it will take approximately 20 seconds to learn new top gear N/V ratio.
4. Once learning is complete with the proper top gear N/V ratio, this will re-enable the all gear sensor
performance diagnostic.

Hey Cecaa850, where did you find this info? I sent it to my dealership where I bought my JT since the one by me told me they didn't know what to do about this.

I know a guy. ; )

That info has been out there for months. Your dealership has access to it.

late update here. I sent the info provided here to the dealership and they didn't even attempt to try it. I did it myself and the error went away. +1 for me -1 for the dealership.

Here is what they say about fixing the start/stop error with the manual trans.
After disconnecting the batteries, waiting a few minutes hooking the ground wires back up.
The “top gear” re-learn procedure is required when changing the tire size on a Manual transmission

JL/JT.

Failure to do so will result in an Electronic Stop-Start (ESS) error.

1- Use the Tazer JL to enter your desired tire size.

2- Select “Full Reboot” and allow it to complete its 2.5 minute cycle.

3- Start the Jeep, allow the radio to boot up, then turn it off. Start it again.

4- The top-gear re-learn requires that you accelerate to highway speed (40-80mph), be in 6th gear, maintain some accelerator pedal pressure (not decelerating) for about 30 seconds.
5- Once this is complete, you can turn the Jeep off and finish the two sleep cycles as mentioned in the user manual, so the radio gets back to normal.

This worked for me. I had an appointment at the dealer but after doing this I was able to cancel it and everything works great

I ran into the same issues I think. Here is a dash pic. Is this what you had? I can get it to happen reliably now. And so can the service manager. I forwarded them the link. Hopefully he can get it fixed.
