Trying to decide between a mojave with the 3.6 or a diesel rubicon. I know there have been a lot of concers surrounding the 3.0l lately and I don't tow a lot. I've just always been a diesel guy and I loved my old baby duramax Colorado (even though I likely won't be able to delete and tune my JT) just trying to rationalize getting one. What's yalls opinion?

I drove a diesel VW jetta for about 12 years as a daily commuter...loved it! However, I am going to probably get flamed for this.....unless you absolutely just love love love having a diesel and need that extra range.....my opinion is to avoid it. They are still having issues with leaks and such, it cost what $4500 more up front?, it's heavier, your payload goes down and people are ven having challenges securing the proper oil filter and oil right now. Its also a rather rare engine....how many techs at your local dealer would actually be able to handle any issues with it if something went wrong. However, the pentastar is so common that all dealers can handle it and most indeppendent shops could as well. Don't get me wrong i loved old school diesels....but to me the cost, rareness and all the emissions/electronics bolted onto them now (more potential for stuff to go wrong) makes it a no go in my book for anythign but a dedicated tow rig like a full size ford f-350 towing a fifth wheel. Just my view......

Go drive both, pretty sure you’ll end up with Rubi. 3.6 makes its hp/tq numbers high im the rpm range, 3.0 makes its numbers just off throttle. Problems are exacerbated on the forum, where anyone who has an issue comes to B.

You only live once, might as well have a smile on your face, just thinking about driving mine does that from ear to ear ?

Btw, 12k no issues.

Zero upside to a diesel IMO in these trucks. You lose capacity so you don't get to benefit from the towing, you pay out the nose up front and ongoing for maintenance, and while it can't compete with diesel torque, you can regain the lost oomph from larger tires and then some by re-gearing. If range is a concern then grab a couple cans.

I've driven both, still prefer the low end torque of the 3.0, just can't rationalize the extra cost. Lol but I still want one for some reason

You can't rationalize the cost - there's your answer. The heart gets over it but in a couple of years, the brain will not forget the rational side of things.
If you don't know the reason, there ya go. There must not be one.

Gas owners will say "why get diesel" - diesel guys will say "there's nothing else that even exists".
How long will you keep it? What will you use it for? Is your location conducive to having a diesel -are your needs there? (lots of towing, a need for the low-end torque)
Mine is gas and tows just fine. I don't need the feel - I could never rationally justify diesel. Cost of ownership, maintenance (oil, filters, fuel filters, DEF issues, etc.)
Each has their place - is it a better fit, or do you simply "feel like having one". When the chips are down, that "feeling" disappears while the rational side will be reminding you of the other choice.

Cost aside, go with what you enjoy more to drive IMO. I personally like the diesel and know I'd get bored of the 3.6. Everyone is different.

That makes a lot of sense. Should probably just sink that extra cash in to aftermarket improvements

Trying to decide between a mojave with the 3.6 or a diesel rubicon. I know there have been a lot of concers surrounding the 3.0l lately and I don't tow a lot. If towing is important to you avoid the diesel

I dont care what anyone says. The 3.6 minivan engine has no place in a Gladiator. We has two 3.0 EcoDiesel Gladiators in our family, and have had no issues. The German sourced 8sp transmission is almost worth the cost by itself. We just drove one from NY to Florida and averaged 28.3mpg, but it's all about the torque. Until the Tornado I6 arrives, the diesel is a no brainer.

The pentastar is also gonna be way more reliable...

Math never favors diesel. You buy a diesel for what it brings, low end torque and assume the elevated risk of increased maintenance costs when they do break.
