Engine choice threads always devolve into a sword fight dick measuring contest. I think it is a lizard brain thing where if the guy next to is not like you, have to kill him.

Reminds me when I owned a Tundra and the 5.7 and 4.6 people swung at each other with usually the 5.7 guys talking down to the 4.6 owners. I prayed to baby Jesus for Toyota to drop a diesel in a Tundra just so I could watch the 5.7 guys melt.

My previous truck was a Tundra with the 5.7, it liked to rev and it pulled well but just like the Pentastar when on the highway if you floored it it would drop a couple gears and rev to redline before the next shift. It also revved pretty high when towing.

I was actually really hoping toyota would drop their 3.3l diesel in the new tundra. Sadly, America likely won't get it.

Get the diesel no question. I’ve had both. Most people on here who will vote against the diesel don’t actually have one, they’ve just heard things from others who have heard things. 460 ft lb of torque in the diesel is crazy and a blast and getting 22+ mpg is nice too. The 3.6 is just kind of there, nothing special. 9,000 miles on my diesel no issues.

So what happens with a Diesel if you have a trailer and load that weighs a total of 7000lbs?

And what if you don't have a different truck.
Can the Diesel, even though it is rated for 6000lbs max,
pull a 7000lbs load?

How often do you need to pull a 7000lbs load? I'm not getting a Gladiator to tow

I think this is a pretty big concern, but think this will solve itself in due time. The Ecodiesel seems to be a very popular option for the JT in general (more so than the Ram 1500) so hopefully a higher uptick will force dealers to have techs in place. That said, I will never go to the dealer for anything other than a warranty claim. I have had enough bad experiences even with my JKU that I question their ability to even work with legos and I live in NJ where dealers are plentiful.
Try taking a Prius in for anything hybrid related. If you're lucky the one trained hybrid tech is working that day.

Towing my TJ on a trailer was a primary reason for my Gladiator
So your primary reason for buying the jeep was to pull your smaller jeep? To each their own I guess.

I ordered my diesel Gladiator as a back up for my 3/4 ton Ford with Powerstroke. I have a business that needs a cargo trailer to be towed.
I just filled the Ford today and got 15.6 mpg's and was thinking, man when I get the Jeep I should be getting 24-28 mpg. The Gladiator will be daily driven with the Ford more or less permanently hooked to the trailer. But, when I need it, the Gladiator will be up to the task.
