I like that thinking better, cash only, though that won't work for most. I have been saving for so long that taking a chunk of money out of my account is going to hurt, but that's my plan. The Can I Afford It, uses an approach that applies to most: total income minus total debts, plus emergency fund, retirement savings and general savings, then your answer of Can I Afford it.
That’s how I’m going about this whole gladiator purchase. I’m planning on having the full amount saved when the time comes for me to buy one, and depending on how high the price is it’s going to be very hard to fork over all of that cash like that. I hate car payments, and I hate debt in general. Home loan is fixed at 3%. Have a 15 yr loan on that, and that’s it minus the everyday mundain bills right now. I want it...but I won’t reach for it just to have it out of an impulse either.

That probably wouldn't fly with financial advisors, as I think most would recommend a maximum car loan term of 36 months, not the 60 months in the article.

We need the Suze Orman show back with the Can I Afford segment. DENIED!
lol
Dave Ramsey...if you can’t pay cash you can’t afford it. I need to quit reading his books lol.
lol

Yeah then i guess Jeep is only selling these vehicles to dudes pulling down $150,000 plus household income?

Median USA houshold income $61,372 in 2017, "The analysts at Kelley Blue Book today reported the estimated average transaction price (ATP) for light vehicles in the United States was $36,113 in December 2017." (https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rel...-according-to-kelley-blue-book-300576732.html)

So, if $61k household people on average buy a $36k vehicle new on average, then a $90k household could afford a $53,114 vehicle.

I guess advertising works! Keeping us all enslaved to debt and living beyond our means. LOL.

Are you one of those bank on yourself guys? Big IUL policy and take loans off of it?
I'm 36, never spent more than $10,000 on a used/new vehicle. Drove shitty cars for 18 years, saved and slammed money into retirement. Its time to buy a Rubicon JT with loan, not cash for this guy. If you can save all the cash and drop it, by all means, but what's your opportunity cost of sinking that money into a car that depreciates, when you could invest it and borrow from a bank at 3%?

AHHHH, to each his own.

I’d end up spending more on it to make it a Rubicon in the end anyway.
That's what I'm thinking, plus a 4WD without lockers is only 2WD. Not that I need lockers, but the one time I do and not have them will be me getting out of the jeep in the mud to hook up the winch cable.

I get your logic on this also. It could be a huge waste of money that does depreciate. Time will tell after I get behind the wheel of one and how bad I have to have it.

Actually, that is a plan I was thinking of, providing they have something in the 0-3% financing range. The only thing that bothers me about it is the idea of having a car payment, as I haven't had one in 10 years. Pay myself the 60K and keep it invested in a separate account earmarked for the payments.

Edit: Nope, I'm one of those 10 years working between Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria guys.

I'm thinking to go with the front bumper (probably $1400) and AEV Borah wheels when they come out for the JT and either a Mopar lift or a AEV lift if its overlanding specific.

Why, I say, my crystal-balling/tarot-carding ventriloquist Dummy tells me (in my sleep, by-the-way) that you can count on Jeep dudes calculating (which-ever) $$$-JL + $ = $$$$-JT . with #'s my Dummy tells me to add $3.5K to #4.5K to a JL !
ANT Options are on top of that . 12 volt refer. ? - Your on your own . . . :headbang:, yes it is frustrating . . . but what better way to pass the time, than right here doing this ?
This would all end immediately if they gave us price.

Of course way mo' betta BS would start up then rightright!!!!

I love jeeps, but not enough to throw down cash like that. That’s creeping up to raptor territory in a hurry. The ranger I currently have was my winter driver while my previous 05 TJR sat in the garage. Previous jeep had 24k miles on it and I had to sell d/t an upcoming wedding. I like my fiancé more haha. I’d love to have one, but I see the trends and they are going to piss us all off with the MSRP on these.
Nah, that'd be too bad. You gotta read the deep breathes thread again. We need Positive thinking!
