Anyone running one of these on their gas powered gladiator? Does anyone have the directions for changing the trans. fluid?? You know, the refilling instructions about pumping up after a fluid change. I saw a youtube about first gear for 5 seconds, reverse for 2 seconds, bla bla bla. Think I might change my fluid soon.

I am. And I’ve done mine, and a friends JLUR. Both of us did both jeeps together. There’s some contention about the process. But there shouldn’t be. Send me a pm with your number and I’ll share mine. Happy to talk through the process as we experienced it. Both jeeps have lots of hard miles on them since, and both are running perfectly.

Three separate sets of instructions from FCP Euro, ZF, and the Service and Repair Manual are available near the end of my post on ATF Equivalents, in the section called Installation. These three sets of instructions can serve as references before you get instructions from @WILDHOBO.

I removed the link to a fourth set of instructions, on the Wrangler sister site, because @Maximus Gladius found some (critical) errors in that write-up.

At some point, I plan to add a set of well-vetted, step-by-step instructions in writing.

Did you need to drop the exhaust pipe?
I did. But we didn’t need to in my friends JL, as he stayed with the factory pan and just replaced the filter and gasket.

I removed the exhaust connector bolts on both sides and pulled the crossover pipe down as much as I could for better access. I did not want to drag the gasket across the valve body. I put anti-seize on the bolts (and bell mouths of the pipes) when replacing them. Others have referenced fill techniques, including trans temp range and completing the fill with the engine running. I put on the PPE pan at about 24k miles and notice a 10-15 deg reduction in trans temperatures. The OEM pan magnets had some black magnetic powder on them, but the fluid looked good. The trans does seem to shift smoother now, and react to changes in throttle better. The PPE pan does take around a quart more fluid than the stock pan.

Same with mine. Just needed a bit more clearance to make sure you can get the pan in without touching the internals.

Same here, I had to drop mine for added clearance.

What brand and type of fluid would you recommend. I guess I will start ordering the parts, pan, filter, fluid, and new bolts. I will also get some exhaust wrap to help control transferred heat. Going to try to get this done before the weather gets cold here in NC.

If you get the PPE pan, the filter is included. Get the t fluid and gasket from a dealer or Benny. @AllMoparParts.com

I got 7 qt of fluid on amazon but made sure it was genuine Mopar 68218925AB. ZF and Mopar do not approve any fluid except their own and the Mopar 8&9 Speed ATF above. I reused the stock gasket. I put high pressure chassis lube on the PPE supplied Allen bolts--they are very high grade (12.9) and are longer than the stock bolts since the PPE flange is thicker.

I decided not to wrap the exhaust pipe because I read that it could get too hot and crack. Trans temps are lower than stock with the PPE pan so I am not worried about heat transfer from the pipe to the pan.

Definitely. Better to just put a one sided shield on only the top of the pipe. But I didn’t do it either.

So there’s a shallow one of these and a deep one. I’m assuming yall did the deep one for the extra fluid/cooling. Is this correct or am I off target?
