Yeah, 65 for the Jeep and then 12+ for the paint and you have a $77,000+ Wrangler that's worth 65KI think your best bet is to find the Jeep she needs and then have it painted purple.
Rats, yesterday was a looong day, had to strip some powdercoating due to a boo-boo and do two parts over and I was frustrated and not thinking right.
To get the auto high beam one must have the advanced safety group.
And making it worse, I totally forgot about my wife's handicap and forgot she would required the Selec-Trac transfer case so in winter I could put it in 4H auto and leave it for her. She can't manipulate that lever while driving. She can drive a short-throw 4 or 5 speed, like my T5 and did great with my Comanche 5 speed but no way on the t-case.
So I guess we're screwed. There's zip out there with safety groups AND the Selec-Trac (or the Rubicon version of the full-time t-case)
Dang dang - she asked me AGAIN this am - "did you find me a purple Jeep??"
Crap, I had to text her that picture.
There's no way to find a Wrangler with Selec-Trac and safety groups and cold weather group. They don't exist. and I'm in the dog house.
BTW - my sales guy told me something interesting yesterday- he said that if they special ordered a Jeep for a customer and the customer backed out, that vehicle didn't often automatically show up in their inventory. Jeeps ordered for their lot showed up automatically, apparently Jeep does that. But it's assume that the one ordered for a customer is gone, not on the lot, so won't show up in searches. He knew one they had was a result of a customer backing out - he knew it was there but had to use other means to get the info on it.
I told the dealer look for one with both LSD and the Selec-Trac. I'd feel better about her driving oe with both.Would she be ok with an LSD in the rear? Its not selec-trac by any stretch, but when i lived in MN the LSD was enough for 99% of the on road driving I did in the winter.
4xes come with selec-trac as well already and a lot of the features built in. Plus if you take delivery by end of February you get 7500 back in tax credit, it's the cheapest way to get in to a high end wrangler currently.I told the dealer look for one with both LSD and the Selec-Trac. I've always had LSD on everything but 2 trucks (70 Chevy, 95 F250)
She's so used to the Grand Cherokee's automatic transfer case - drive it and it does the thinking for you.......
It's a "maybe" as she used to drive Camaros. So who knows.
She never drove my Comanche in the winter.
She's a stickler for wanting all the bells and whistles, auto high beam, and so on but doesn't care if ACC isn't there. The thing is that it's both or neither.
Sometimes I wish I had the money to buy a purple one and let her keep the GC, too. But with $500/year license fees, and over $450/year insurance on these.......
I tried to talk her into checking out the 4xe.
I told her then she could REALLY brag to her friends about her gas mileage!
I have Selec-Trac on my Mojave, which is an open diff. For on-road use, I don't think a LSD rear will do much for you considering what the traction control system is capable of, either in 2Hi or 4Auto. I used to put my JT in 4Auto whenever it was raining, but to be honest I can't really get it to do anything unusual in 2Hi unless I shut off traction control.I told the dealer look for one with both LSD and the Selec-Trac. They come with selec-trac but base options dont include either safety package so you still need to check what it comes with if the safety packages are a must. Doing a search its hard to find them with the safety package though. I guess it depends on if selec-trac is your top ask of BSM/bumper sensors.LOVE that color. I'd also go 4xe for the wife as it already has the safety gear she's looking for.
Both of my JTs suffer a horrible lack of traction control. My Silverado used to literally walk up our icy driveway in 2wd. My JTs in 2wd don't do anything but spin wheels in the same circumstances. I never hear traction control working, never hear the brakes chatter and unless I put it in 4H, it'll spin wheels.I have Selec-Trac on my Mojave, which is an open diff. I definitely appreciate it on the Gladiator. Grand Cherokees amaze me with the amount of "blind spot space" those have. There's a lot of spaces you just can't see around. Likely for roof strength or making it quiet. The WJ was the last GC I had that was decent for lack of blind spots. The WK platform is "fat", IMO.They come with selec-trac but base options dont include either safety package so you still need to check what it comes with if the safety packages are a must. The wife's jeep doesnt have BSM (4xe) and with its short length, I can safely say i've never felt the need for it versus in the gladiator I appreciate it.
Hmmm, interesting, definitely not the same as my experience. Maybe mine has the special "Desert Rated" traction control. But, I've never tried to climb up my steep driveway in snow/ice in 2WD.Both of my JTs suffer a horrible lack of traction control.
And some is possible "perceptions" too. I sold the Chevy in 2019 to buy my first Gladiator.Hmmm, interesting, definitely not the same as my experience. Maybe mine has the special "Desert Rated" traction control. But, I've never tried to climb up my steep driveway in snow/ice in 2WD.
Yeah, 65 for the Jeep and then 12+ for the paint and you have a $77,000+ Wrangler that's worth 65K
You have to literally strip interior panels out, latches and strikers, glass, door panels, etc.
I've talked to her about that when she's asked. Been down that road with cars -it's extremely labor intensive because of the amount of color you see INSIDE these things. Sitting in the driver's seat you see the exterior color all around in - inside.
Cars are bad enough because there's the firewall, engine bay, underside of the hood.......
One of the things I like about the Wrangler and Gladiator line is the amount of body color you have on the interior as well.
LOL - no thanks.
It would actually be cheaper to find one that was lacking, say, the advance safety group, and have the windshield replaced and the camera/radar unit installed.
I'm in the middle of changing the color on a car now because my niece wanted a different color on the car I'm restoring for her. Had to all but gut the thing. She'll still have a partially blue engine bay- I'm not dropping the engine out for that!.
OK, now. I thought this was about making the wife happy. And sometimes spending irresponsible money to make the wife happy is worth it. If her heart is set on purple here is a link to an Autotrader search I did this morning. All I put in for a search criteria was Wrangler, Purple, Sahara, and Automatic Trans. AND I did Any Distance. The results are not pretty. That's why I suggested getting any Jeep with the equipment she wants and painting it.Yeah, 65 for the Jeep and then 12+ for the paint and you have a $77,000+ Wrangler that's worth 65K
