Quick question about jscan cables and factory obd port

I'm totally new to the whole jscan thing. I just got my cables and adapter to use with the app. My question is once I install the security bypass cables am I essentially rendering the factory obd port useless while they're installed? Haven't been able to find anything on that reading through the posts. I'm in the process of ordering all my parts for lift, tires etc. I'm going with a 35 inch at that's almost the same weight as the oem 33s but I was gonna get a banks pedal monster to give it a little bit of punch just to offset any extra lag the bigger tires may introduce. At 300 bucks, it's figured Into my budget but I don't want to waste the money if I won't be able to use it once I hook up the bypass cables.

I just used mine for the first time yesterday so take this with a grain of salt, but the Bluetooth OBD scanner and cables came off after I was done and everything went back to normal. I don't think it's meant to stay plugged in. I'm sure someone will correct me if I"m wrong.

From what I've read they can be removed once you get everything the way you want it but alot of people keep them hooked up and tucked under the dash because of it being a pain to get the plugs out and or back in.

Buy the ZAutomotive extension cable, it's about $30. It plugs into the bottom of the Security Gateway and extends the ports below the dash. It makes connecting the bypass cable real easy. The bypass cable is intended for temporary use, not for long-term installation.

I did when I ordered the other stuff. So you're saying leave the extension plugged up continuously and just add the bypass cables when I want to make changes?

Also, I'm probably using the wrong terms for the cables. I've been calling the extension and the bypass cables the same thing.

The extension cable moves that connection point below the dash so you don't have to tear up the skin on your knuckles every time you want to use Jscan. The extension cable stays plugged in all the time. The security cables are then just moved between the extension cable and the bypass cable to use Jscan. The bypass cable just gives you an unrestricted OBD port to connect the dongle Jscan uses to communicate with the trucks computer. The security gateway makes the factory OBD port read only. Jscan can be used with the factory OBD port, but connected there it cannot clear codes or make any changes.

They are two completely different cables so it would also be helpful when referring to the cables to specify which one you are talking about.

I thought we are talking about JSCAN and now you are talking about Banks which are two totally different things. I think it would help if you explained what you are trying to setup. For example I used JSCAN to set my tire size, gear ratio and LED lights and then connected my tazer for the live features and then I have my banks pedal commander, derringer and iDASH running off the OBD port..

So you did, not sure how I missed it. My bad. The extension cables as other have said just lower the access to the SGW so you don't have cut your hands up every time you want to connect to it. Those stay plugged in. The Security Bypass Cables do not stay plugged in and are only used for when you are programming or making changes with JSCAN. If you have a Tazer that would be plugged into the SGW if you don't then it would just get plugged back in as normal just with the Extension cables added. The Banks Pedal Monster works just fine with the Tazer or any changes made from JSCAN as that is how I have mine currently setup.

No problem buddy. I did have the cables confused originally. I have everything sitting at the house in a box. Just haven't had time to mess with it yet. I appreciate the help though!

I've been driving my JTR with the security bypass cable connected for the last few months without issue. You may want to test leaving it connected and after finishing with JScan, connect the Banks PM to see if it works without removing the bypass cable. If not, just remove the cable after you do the changes with JScan.
