Looking at the pics from the link, it doesn't look all that compact. Maybe it's the picture. But like @ToJTornottoJT mentioned, Ram has had a compact truck around for years.

I spotted this one in San Antonio about a year and a half ago..

So perhaps one or more of the writers of these articles are adding their own speculation in, instead of simply reporting news and fact as told to them.

I was in South America back in February for 6 weeks and saw a lot of small pick ups. Chevy’s and some Chinese brands to mention a few. I thought they would be a good size for a lot of people.
I had a Ford Ranger that I bought for my company back on ‘07 to run around to job sites etc as opposed to driving my F-350 diesel. Long story short, it saved me enough in fuel costs to pay for itself in just 2 years…and I kept it until 2019. It was a great little truck.
I think it would be a hit in the US.

Tinfoil hat on time: I am going to say RAM is going to be like Ford and their Maverick in that they really do not want to sell a bazillion of these even if demand is there. They want people buying their $75K+ half ton trucks, not sub $30K MSRP trucks because the profit margins are way less.

You are not going to find a on dealer lot MSRP priced or cheaper Rampage even 2+ years from now.

Then they are looking to be upscale midsize and not compact economy like the Ford Maverick.

Ram Mexico makes a compact truck the Ram 700 that sells for $17K - $25K USD there.

OOF, the only unibody pickup I can really stomach is the El Camino. Don't know why I like the Elkys but hate all other unibody trucks, but I just do. Maybe because of the trauma that Honda Ridgeline caused my eyes....

El Caminos aren't unibody. They are a Malibu wagon with the back cut down. They have a frame.
