Looks like the Merritt. Happened to me a few years ago around Fairfield with my Ram. Thankfully my hitch was in the receiver and there wasn't a scratch on my truck. Car was a different story. I REALLY wish I had taken pics though. It was a carload of Asian girls with one guy driving. All the girls were dressed as slutty Catholic school girls (no, it was this time of year, not Halloween); short skirts, low cut tops, multicolored wigs with pigtails. My wife STILL does not believe me it happened. I can certainly understand why the guy was distracted though.

Sorry to hear that OP. Glad that there were no injuries. I cringe whenever someone gets a little close in the rear view mirror (I’ve been rear-ended twice).?

I agree, she has a nice set of hips.
Yes, her hips don’t lie. ?

Unfortunately the age of your ride has nothing to do with the odds of being wrecked.

There are people who have been totaled in the their new ride just pulling out of dealership after signing paperwork.

Until other humans become accountable for their actions and learn to be courteous and respectful of others, these things will continue and even escalate.

Glad no one was hurt, which is the important thing.

The odds are more to do with how often you drive and where you drive. Insurance companies have known this for many decades.
My son was west-bound on Grand Avenue in Des Moines after work on day, he was in the left lane waiting for the light to turn so he could make a left turn (Grand is one-way west at that point). While he was stopped, and he had JUST stopped a second or two before, BANG. Young woman rear-ended him square on. Mashed up the front of her car so bad it had to be towed away. It knocked off a piece of trim from his bumper. I had the trim on hand. Not a scratch or mark on his car other than that. Luckily his car sat fairly high, the bumpers are extruded aluminum like a channel, extremely stout. It was a 1982 SX4 he used to own. As his car was an automatic, he could have had his foot on the brake to hold position, meaning his brake lights were on, plus she should have been watching those downtown traffic lights - they'd have been RED at the time. Totally distracted.

Heading to a service call around 11pm and a lawyer rear ended me. My Econoline van sat ass high and with a textured surface bumper. At least 1/4 or 5/16 inch thick. No damage. The Caddy was holed through the radiator, a hood crush and he tried to leave but the car shut down. Best part was, prior DUI, open containers of liquor, girlfriend/bar pickup in the passenger seat. It was his wife's car, not his.

Did he sue you for being in the way?

Thank god it was the steel bumper. Nothing in the receiver. I have some light scuffs on the bumper and the tailgate, this truck is built like a tank!!!!!!

That sucks!

I am actually in the middle of shopping for dash cams with a rear facing cam option because of this issue.

Even with "hands-free" device laws on the books that most people ignore anyways, just see too many people with their heads up their digital asses looking at a phone or doing other distracted driving.
Great suggestion, let me know which camera you end up with.

I bought a 3 ball hitch with tow hook for just such emergencies. It won't help in all collisions, but it will for a direct rear end.

You always have something in the receiver!!! Its shows that you care, gives them that something extra special!!

Really, it protects you and your vehicle, Remember there the ones not paying attention,

Wife's friend at a light, young 20's something hits her, bends up both cars, hers Tahoe, his GM truck, new, owned it less than 20 minutes, 5 miles from the dealership..............

This is how my 17 JKU ended up after 16 hours of ownership and 75 miles on the odometer. A driver ran a red light , and the impact twisted the frame. 11 weeks and $23,000 later I had my new new Jeep back.

Have the frame inspected before you sign any settlement.

I mean, it's Connecticut, what did you expect? :giggle:

New England drivers are some of the worst I have encountered anywhere.

That does suck! I was rear ended with just over 200 miles on the odometer in early February. The young female driver was obviously not looking. With supply chain issues, which seems like they'll never end, I'm still waiting to have mine repaired... bumper and tailgate anyway. Good luck with the repairs.

Sorry, ladies, but my wife is right - she and her quilting friends all agree, it's most likely to be a younger female that rear-ends you.

New England drivers are some of the worst I have encountered anywhere.
Possibly, but here's the take from a Canadian friend of mine:
He worked and lived around the Toronto area, got engaged to a young lady in Eugene, Or.
They were to be married in Canada. He flew to Eugene, and he drove her car back to Toronto. I asked his route and he said he'd be passing right by us so I invited them to stop by, stay the night with us and rest up a bit. The plan was they'd hit our area late afternoon, we'd meet up, eat out, then head to our place. We met up at a gas station in Ankeny, just north of Des Moines.
He's a TALL guy. He pulled up to the pumps to fuel up and stood next to the car looking over at the roof at us and his first words "I could tell when we were approaching West Des Moines. People started cutting us off, fingering us, and being totally rude". He said it was downright scary.
I said - uh, but you live around Toronto, you've driven half-way across the USA and this was scary?
Yeah, he said the drivers here are rude, tailgate, cut you off, turn right from a left lane and act like it's a competition.
I worked at CCC, a multi-national with employees from all over the USA and the world for that matter - many people from CA, TX and other places commented on the obnoxious drivers of central Iowa. I was like - really????
But my son agrees - he said in other places it's necessary to get your spot or not make it, they drive like that because of the extreme traffic. They aren't being rude, it's "no offense" type thing, but here it's corn field driving taken to the highways.
Traffic can be heavy in parts of southern MO but the people are so NICE. If it's a busy highway and people see you are having trouble getting into traffic, they'll often stop and let you in. Here, they race to fill the spot to prevent you from getting in. Seriously, once a central Iowa driver sees you going after a spot, they hit the gas and block you - on purpose.
