First of all, glad your family was ok. That stuff can be fixed.

I was rear ended on the way home within 2 hours of purchase. Low speed on highway while stuck in traffic. Few scuffs in bumper, stuck in traffic and have the lady a tongue lashing at road side. Took some photos and we both continued on our way.

I just installed a set of euro fog lights in the rear bumper and wired them as stop/signals. I'm hoping it might help me be more visible.

I put a Body Armor hitch skid plate on my JT. This thing will devastate any idiot's vehicle that rear ends me!

The only vehicle I ever ordered was a 96 F150 two days later I was setting at a red-light and a new Caddy hit me in the rear. Yes it was a lawyer, his first words was what happened I said " I was setting at the light stopped in traffic and you just hit me" . My hitch just destroyed his front end, grill, bumper, hood, radiator. Bent the draw bar on the hitch. I have never removed one out of a hitch since that time.

After a few times nearly getting rear ended on I-35 in the DFW area, I bought one of these "steps".
Does this set off your reverse proximity sensors ? I have basically the same one and it interferes with the two center sensors ? Was thinking of disconnecting them , but I have read it enterferes with the whole system.... still researching.

I've been looking at one of these, don't know if it would be any better.

I don't see it as a visibility problem........it's a lack of even looking ahead and paying attention. My big red Ford truck could have been lit up like a Christmas tree, and it wouldn't have mattered. My son's big-butted Eagle had to be right in that girls face - didn't matter.
But - good luck. Heck, around here patrol cars with their lights flashing get hit along the highways!

Not sure why you are wishing me good luck, but good luck to you as well.

The fact is that greater visibility / conspicuity will only help. And, with the amount of people tending to be looking downward toward their mobile device, having stop/signal lights lower down in the bumper will provide significantly increased visibility - the idea is to get a set of lights down into the distracted person's peripheral view.

I don't think that many people are aware that the euro rear fog lights can be easily installed in place of the reflectors in the rear bumper to increase visibility. That was the point of my post.

This is my set up for doing road side recovery or simply driving up to a dangerous situation on the road and need to get the attention of others. It’s not “bullet proof” but at least I get the attention of 90%+ of drivers who respond appropriately when I put these on.
There is a level of luck needed and a whole lot of prayer when the situation is extremely dangerous. The OP adding lights to the back in hopes of raising awareness will do exactly that.
But … no amount of lights or awareness will stop anyone focused on their phone or hair fixing. “You can’t fix stupid”

Good luck to all of us.

Are you freaking kidding me?!?!?!?! Literally picked up this truck 4 days ago! Wife and son were stopped for traffic, trying to merge onto the highway. A young female struck them from behind. Wife looked into her rear view mirror and saw the driver fixing her hair, looking into her rear view mirror, as she was accelerating into them. Thank god, no one was hurt! Bumper is scuffed and a very small dent on the tailgate. You can not have anything nice in this world. Carelessness and immaturity are EVERYWHERE!

On a side note, I love this view every time I look out my side mirror. The angles are incredible.

Hope family is ok. I noticed the CT plate. Is that Hamden area?

There's a reason there is a minimum height requirement for brake/tail lights, and a reason the "third brake light" is high, not low.
Low mounted lights don't do much at all to help.
Higher mounted lights do.
Lights above the center plane are more effective, not bumper mounted. Want to get someone's attention - mount light so they are directly straight ahead of the other driver's eyes or a bit above (thus tailgate or rear window mounted third brake lights.)
I've studied distractibility for years for personal reasons.

Removing the rear reflectors is also illegal - they are required. That's likely why Oracle went with the design they did instead of their larger light that removed the reflector completely - to keep a reflector in place to comply with laws.
So anyone thinking of bumper mounted lights may want to use reflective tape if they remove the factory reflectors. Yes, most states don't stop you, and inspection station idiots wouldn't know if they are supposed to be there or not, so usually pass vehicles just fine, assuming the tail lights double as reflectors (they do not in Jeep Wrangler or Gladiator). But if your vehicle is stranded along the road some night, power failure, and you have no reflectors...........
I worked researching distracted drivers, and got the attention of a group fighting distracted drivers (sort of like MADD, etc.) There's a lot of misconceptions out there.

Can’t wait for autonomous vehicles to be a real thing so we can spend more time on this forum as our vehicle drives us around!
I really just want to read forums while my Rubicon crawls Cliffhanger for me ?
