You'll have to run it behind the glove box, which is removable, and up the pillar and across the top of the roll bar. This is what I'm looking at to power a dash camera.

Quadratec has a stealth light bar they sell for mounting inside at the top of the windshield. The installation instructions for it show how to run wiring up the pillar.

Thanks for the great info!

Do you already know which dash cam you going to get? I'm thinking about getting blackvue and have it hotwired

I finally got around to this and finished over the weekend. Spliced the electrical into the pink/green wire for positive and black for negative. A blendmount unfortunately will not fit the Gladiators incompatible plastic mirror neck, so I bought a 3M VHB Escort Windshield Mount Bracket off of Amazon (see link below). It came with grey 3M tape. I swapped grey tape with black 3M VHB tape so it matched everything else black color wise on the windshield. The mount seems to be holding fine and strong on the windshield. Would have rather used a mirror mount, but couldn’t find anything compatible that would fit the Gladiators thick plastic mirror neck or offer enough room to adjust the mirror once installed. Time will tell, but so far the windshield 3M mount is working fine.

Anyway, project complete and moving on to the next mod. Hope this help anyone trying to mount a radar detector on the Gladiator.

Thanks for these posts/info! So, is the pink/green positive wire SWITCHED?

Any chance you can post up a pic or two or some info on how you accessed the wires? Was it as simple as unscrewing the 2 screws?

I already had a mirror tap from a previous car and didn’t want to buy another one. I used the below similar mirrortap. This was a 15” and probably could even have taken a 20”. I couldn’t get the tap prongs to connect though the mirror connector plug for some reason. Never had that problem before on other vehicles, but the prongs were either too tight, wrong ones or not deep enough for the connection. So I went old school and just spliced them in by hardwiring and used standard electrical tape to wrap. Then added a tie wrap around the mirror neck & wire in case the mount does fail at some point. Don’t want it pulling out with a dangling detector.

So did you strip the insulation and wrap the wire or did you use a wiretap?

Thanks again

I couldn’t get the wire tap prongs to make a connection, so just stripped and hardwired.

To access the wiring, there are two pieces. The smaller is near the mirror neck, pulls down and snaps out. Then you can get to the harness. You do not need to remove the mirror at all, just work around it.

I’m traveling, but can send some pictures next weekend if still needed.

I (and others likely) would appreciate you posting a pic or two and an explanation of which part(s) you removed and how. One of the biggest things we can learn from each other is how to take our Jeeps apart without breaking any clips or parts and then putting them back together.

WhatExit:

1) To access the rearview mirror housing pull at the bottom on both sides toward the rear of the Jeep or pulling toward yourself while seated. This completely frees the bottom tabs.

2) Then pull the top clips out the same way, basically straight out toward the rear of the Jeep.

3) Completely remove the plastic cover. Note: you do not need to remove the actual mirror, just work around it.

4) Then you can access the wiring harness. I unplugged it to make it easier to strip/hardwire the connections. Striped color wire is positive and black wire is negative. The two yellow are something else and not used.

Good Luck with the install.

THANK YOU!

Now I need to find a mount for my Valentine One radar detector either mirror stalk mount (heard it won't fit in there) or on the windshield unless I can hang it from under the housing

There is a plastic neck on the JT mirror with autodim, so I know the blendmounts will not work (tried it) unfortunately. Then went with the 3M press on glass mount. It’s holding well after 3 months.

That's what I thought - the Blendmount wouldn't work on the auto-mirror. I need to find a mounting bracket for my V1 so I can attach it to the windshield.

Does anyone know which wires are which in the ACC mirror wire bundle? Black is negative but what are the other ones? Pink / Green seems to be positive (switched?) from the posts above but does anyone have info on what the other wires are?

THANK YOU RSK!

The information you posted on (1) removing the cover above/behind the mirror and (2) the wire colors was spot-on and your post and info made installing my V1 radar detector super easy! Thanks a lot!

FYI:

I used a Clutch-It - great product at a great price! I mounted the adhesive disk to the back of the rearview mirror on the passenger side and this unit magnetically attaches to the disk. I put another disk on the top of my Valentine 1 radar detector and that was it! Works great!

I used these to tap the red/striped power/positive wire and the black/negative wire inside the Adaptive Cruise Control housing behind the rearview mirror.

<EDIT>: I could NOT use this RJ11 cord to connect the Valentine 1 radar detector to the Valentine One wire tap I already had as the order of the wires in the connectors isn't correct. I ended up making my own. ShadowsPapa should be pleased to hear this :)<end EDIT>

This would be a good option:

I run mine off a switch and my radar uses a standard RJ 11 fone jack which plugs into the side, makes it easy to take in/out.

Valentine 1, been running it since 1990, just had it updated, they still the same magnesium case, it is almost undetectable when on even in Virginia where I made that I 95 from Ft Monroe to the Pentagon-run almost every week and the HP would pull you over if you used a Radar Detector. One time that I did not drive up in my car I had some of my staff with me and the guy a radar and we got pulled over. What they do is give you an option either a BIG ticket $$$ or they give you a hammer and you destroy your radar with HP officer watching...based upon the $$$ of the ticket almost everyone opts to take the hammer to it.
Did they ever detect you V1? I have been running mine for a long time too. Was a hand down when my pop turned 60 and didn't speed anymore. Whats great about them ebsides them working like a detector should is ability to update.
