A customers awfukit attitude is what makes these rebates so profitable for companies.
I am like a pit bull after a mailman, if you tell me something and don't follow through with your end of it, you will get to know me after awhile.

Just curious but what benefit is there to Bestop by offering a rebate and not just discounting the product ?
The difference is that when we offer a rebate on a product, it is a way for the manufacturer to cover the cost of the promotion and not the resellers who already own the inventory.

Long time ago, when I first got out of the Marines, I got a job as a Product Specialist working at Circuit City Headquarters in Richmond VA. Long story short - I was responsible for setting up the rebates that Circuit City advertised on computers and crap like that. The rebate redemption process was absurd and the company hoped most people would not bother, and guess what? Most did not. Rebate redemptions for $100 or less was normally around 25%. Once a rebate submission date expired, Circuit City kept the money. The whole thing was dirty in my opinion.

You never lived through the 1970s........... it's a way to keep the pricing the same on web sites, in catalogs, etc. but now and then give an incentive. In the past, it was a way to get around price controls. Hey, we aren't changing the price! The price is the same - we simply stopped the rebate.
Rebates - if you have studied psychology and marketing strategies, you'd also see that the companies know that only about 20% of consumers ever actually end up sending in for a rebate. Microsoft found that years ago in a big study. If they discount it, everyone gets a lower price and it costs the company more. If they offer a rebate, only a certain percentage will apply for the rebate, and the company doesn't lose so much. Even those who never send in for the rebate are seeing it as a better deal. Psy-101.
In many cases, the manufacturer or seller isn't even the one handling a rebate. It goes through a 3rd party that specializes in such things as it's cheaper than paying the high priced help to sit and handle rebates all day when there are rooms full of lower pay people doing it for a living for many companies.
Both my son and my daughter-in-law have taken marketing classes and my DIL has a degree in the topic. Marketing and business management. (good luck getting to talk to her though with her big successes in business and as an author on book tours now)

Do some reading if you need to know the differences.

Here's a great 30,000ft view of why you might see a rebate instead of a straight-up discount:
https://www.enable.com/blog/rebate-vs-discount-what-are-the-differences

In the end, there's nothing evil or shady about rebates. They take longer, yes, but they serve a purpose beyond just you as the consumer.
Once again - a voice of reason............ shame on you, inserting logic

Kohls and Menards use rebates to get you back in the store - the rebate is in the form of a discount on a future purchase.

That's a huge reason for a company like you.
Go to Quadratec and buy something - ya want them to discount an item and cut their income?
Rebates mean the manufacturer covers the cut, not the company trying to sell the product for the manufacturer.
The party in the middle doesn't have to deal with price changes that way, or cut profit or try to get reimbursed by the manufacturer.
That alone is likely #1 reason for products like yours.

... and no warranty transferred to you (lifetime for twill)
Sure no warranty but in many cases a much deeper discount; for example, I scooped up a Twill Sunrider off FB Market place for $500. For something so mechanically/technologically simple, IMO equally likely the Sunrider will be damaged (accident or act of God) over it’s life vs a critical manufacturing defect. If you can find a good deal on a lightly used piece, is the insurance value of that “lifetime” warranty worth the $200+ premium you will pay for buying new? It isn’t to me but to each their own.
