For those that had to get their windshield replaced, did you have any problems getting the glass comp/insurance comp use OEM MOPAR glass in order to keep the jeep icon in the lower right hand corner? Did you have to pay the difference of did the ins. co. do it for you without hassle? Or did it not matter to you

We didn't bother going through our insurance - we just went online to Safelite and set up the appointment. They asked if we wanted the little Jeep or not, and showed the price difference - it wasn't much.

I went through insurance and the price difference was significant. Given it’s likely I’ll need another one at some point I got the generic. Probably go hgp at some point.

No problems. I have the free replacement glass coverage through my insurance and they've replaced one so far. Chips are also replaced for free.

I went through my insurance company and they "upgraded" me to the GG for no extra cost.
We'll see how this one holds up...

Never had to get my windshield replaced.. but for chips, my insurance waives the deductible for windshield repairs. I go to Tim over at A Chick and A Windshield https://achickandawindshield.com/
Not only did he take care of my chip but was so very professional and polite. Yes, I will take my business back to anytime. Great work. Support a local guy if you're from Colorado Springs, look for Tim!

No problems. I only paid the deductible.

My insurance company let me choose OEM versus AM. I have a deductible, so the price difference to me was significant, AM would have been less than the deductible, so wouldn't have been an insurance claim at all.

i have glass coverage. Safelite did the work in AZ. The deductible is like $50. I could have gotten the OE. The tech was super cool. Even offered to notate they ordered the wrong glass and told me to make a new appointment to get the OE one put in. I never did. I figured it will break again so next time ill just request OE glass. The tech also said most prefer using OE glass because they have tabs that align the glass on the frame. Then the glass wont sag and go off center. I guess it helps the robots at the factory too.

When I had mine done it was supposed to be OEM. Turned out it had a big scratch in it that was discovered after they removed my original windshield. The glass company had to get another one there asap and it was aftermarket. No Jeep in the corner.

I didn't really care. With my insurance cost me nothing either way. The glass company did a good job installing it. Besides, I figure a windshield is almost a consumable item in JTs (and JL) and would get replaced again anyway.

I seem to remember reading on the JL forums that some folks feel aftermarket windshields are more durable than OEM.

There are spacers used for that. However, urethane secured glass won't move or settle.
I've done glass myself in older vehicles.
Since you see the edge of the glass in these, there's no trim to hide it - I'd like to know where the tabs are that center it - because they'd have to rest against metal and that means -you'd see them.
I watched the second glass go in - it was smooth-edged, no tabs.

I've had two windshields replaced. One I paid for, the other I turned in to insurance. Since it's a straight deductible, it was no price difference for me. The glass shop Safelite had do the glass said that it was assumed it would be OEM unless I was paying and wanted to go cheap.

the tabs keep the glass in place and centered. That's what the tech told me. Keep the seems even. That's why they use the tape. Until the seal cures it will sag and could cause leaks. that's just what i was told. and it makes sense safelite would use OE on insurance claims. They get them at cost either way. Just more of a profit margin.
