hrough either 3 or 4. Can’t remember
It is possible to just replace the 40a fuse for either aux 1 or 2 with a 15 or 20a fuse. I asked Benny at @AllMoparParts.com about what fuse type that was before, but don't remember where that thread was.

which is ideal for me as well.

the qtec one says 9in long on their website. Which may be just enough to run the plug over the the passenger side foot well.
I truly think this is the way to go. It might be a bit of extra work to get at that old plug in the dash, but I think you'll end up much happier. And it leaves the high-amperage aux switches open for future shenanigans.

You could do that, but to me you are still losing a high amperage output that you might be able to use down the road for something that actually needs it.

the cable on the pictures plug says its a 20a cable so I was hoping it would be fine. But like I said..i know just enough to be dangerous (so really very little when it comes to electrical)

i have the plugs from the oem12v plug still behind the dash. They make a cable for adding CB radio and stuff like that but It looks like a splitter to me and I wasn’t sure if that would work for re wiring another plug or not.

I used that to extend my 12v outlet wires. Still haven't mounted it, but it's sticking out by the glovebox so I can at least use it. That harness also gave me a good ign controlled source for my snow plow hand-held controller.

True.

Considering my gladiator is really just used for daily driving and towing my camper or boat i don’t foresee adding any high power accessories in the future since im nearly 4 years into ownership and haven’t yet haha

Why not use that harness to plug into the factory 12v outlet connector, and extend it out to where you want, then connect to the new 12v outlet using the screw terminals of that harness?
Or snip the end and use the original 12v plug wires for a new outlet?
Don't over-complicate it.........

Man, weve talked in a mess of threads. Over complicating something is always step 1 in my “process” haha

im probably going to grab two of these harnesses. One I can modify a little and see if i can get rid of the extra plug. And the other to leave alone so i can just plur it in and extend the wires.

would that crappy amazon plug work with the harness?

This is what I would do. I would get the quadratic part simply to have the OEM wire connector, cut off everything else, and attach the cigar plug to that

Yeah that was my original thought, but depending on what he wants to plug in, the QT splitter output is only rated for 10a.

If he uses the pass through end he can keep the oem 20a rating and have the 10a harness for other stuff.

If he's only ever going to charge a cell phone, then yeah, just use the 10a terminal block

Yes you could attach the amazon deal to the harness. The wire sizes will be different so just use the appropriate butt connector, and make sure to shrink wrap everything and then use a wire protection over the whole wire length

If you are plugging that stuff in I would definitely just get the splitter harness, cut off the male end and butt splice it to the socket as I mentioned in my first post... .

That gives you the oem 20a output and leaves the 10a tap for something else

So using the harness…

dismantle it

remove the parts marked in blue

and the essentially make it a extension cable for the parts in green?

edit:

looking a little closer at it it seems like the blue wire would be the limiting factor in just turning it into an extension. I guess I will need to figure out what gauge? Wire that is an add an equal length to match the rest
