Hello all,

When I try to start my gladiator with the remote start after sitting overnight it just clicks as if the battery is dead. When I open the door and start it from the inside it starts on the first try. Is that the aux battery that starts it via remote start?

No. Both main and aux are in parallel on cold starts.

This sounds like an issue with the remote start module. Otherwise you’d be seeing the same symptoms no matter how you tried to start it.

Ok. If I run the Jeep for a while driving throughout the day the remote start then works. I don’t know anything about the aux battery and what exactly it powers. Hence my confusion with the remote start side of it.

Another side note, I never use the start to function. I have it turned off via Tazer since the Jeep was new.

How old are the batteries?

This is a sign that the battery charge is low. It could be from failing batteries, it could be from not being driven enough.

Whether or not ESS is used has no effect on the charging of the batteries.

It’s a 2021 with factory batteries. Drive it at least every other day. I do travel for work and it will sit for a 3-6 days or so once or twice a month.

From the owner's manual...

All of the following conditions must be met before the engine will remote start:
 Gear selector in PARK
 Doors closed
 Hood closed
 Hazard switch off
 Brake switch inactive (brake pedal not pressed)
 Battery at an acceptable charge level
 Panic button not pushed
 System not disabled from previous Remote Start event
 Vehicle Security system indicator flashing
 Ignition in OFF position
 Fuel level meets minimum requirement
 All removable doors must not be removed
 Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) not illuminated

Since the remote start works normally after you've driven it, the most likely problem is your batteries are low after sitting overnight.

Thanks everyone. I will start with getting them load tested and go from there

The life expectancy of the batteries in the JT is about three years. Disconnect the negative cables, remove the IBS, separately charge each battery, then put it all back together. This will buy some time, but expect to replace both batteries in the near future.
