Remove rear exhaust resistor for better performance and fuel economy?

Has anyone removed the rear resistor on their stock exhaust? I have a 21, 3.6, a “mechanic” told me I would see better performance and fuel economy. I can’t find anything online and not sure I trust this guy. Probably will end up with a rock crawler exhaust but wanted to check here before I went ahead. Thanks in advance for the help.

There is no resistor in the rear exhaust. Do you by any chance mean the rear resonator?

There is a chance he is referring to the process of removing the rear resonator, and main muffler. Some of the forum members have removed those and used a J pipe to control the drone removing them replaces.

I was incorrect it was the resonator, thanks for catching that. He specifically said to leave the muffler and remove just the resonator. I have not seen anyone just doing this.

You will get neither better performance or mpg by doing this...I did it cause I hated the look but you wont get anything out of it.

Agreed, it's done for appearance and clearance. To get "Minor Gains" you'll have to remove more of the OEM exhaust or replace the exhaust completely.

Before you go buy that Rock Crawler Exhaust try this...

If you want something quick and dirty, one cut between the first exhaust hanger and the large suit case muffler. Bolt on a turn down tip then wake up the neighbors. Does not drone on the highway.

Interesting ? How loud is your rig after the mod? Drone is very annoying so good to read that no drone.

It sounds good for just deleting a muffler and a resonator.

Unfortunately I don't have a sound clip but it sounds similar to this...
