Does anyone have tips for removing the brake fluid filter? It spins in place just fine, but I cant seem to pinch it and pull it up. Even with a pick tool behind it it just spins and never lifts.

Did you ever figure this out?

I used a very small flat head screwdriver to wedge between the filter and the reservoir wall.
Then I used needle nose pliers to pull it up. Took me a few tries but I was able to pull it out using that method.

I’m just curious- y’all remove the filter to suck as much of the old out? Or what’s the reason for removal?

I have always just syringed out to the bottom of the filter- brake pedal bled down as low as I feel comfortable seeing without allowing air- then filled up.

Since this is a fun topic- what fluid are y’all going with? I run Penthosin dot4 LV for all our vehicles. Figure it’s specs are decent and supposedly designed for cold temperature ABS improved functionality (viscosity stability when cold…) - could be snake oil ??‍♂

Full disclosure, I'm not a mechanic, I'm a bean counter and as such, if I can reduce my ownership costs by using some of my spare time to do so, I don't mind rolling my sleeves up. I find it therapeutic as well. That being said, I read up on tutorials and take bits and pieces here and there (ie: tips, best practices, etc...) before I tackle a project on my own.

For brake fluid, the MOPAR specs say as long as it's DOT3 and SAE J1703 it's fine.
I went with Lucas Oil Synthetic which is both.

As far as removing the brake fluid filter, I did it in order to suck out as much of the old brake fluid down to the minimum line then I put the filter back on. Then I topped off and started my flush.

Essentially.

I just did it the long way and opened up the line and bled out the old fluid. And when it got low, added the new fluid and bled it till it was clear again. seemed to work but took a long time. next time I'm just getting a large syringe and large bore needle and sucking it out. lol
