Like so many others here, I will be ordering a 2022 Gladiator the moment the order banks open. Since there is likely a zero chance Gobi will come back for MY2022, I have no choice but to have the vehicle painted by a good shop. I will be using the NSN spec color for desert sand (a little different than Gobi). I will order the fenders and roof in black, so these surfaces obviously will not need to be repainted. BTW, I do not want to have a wrap job.

I have 2 questions:

1-What should I plan on budgeting for a high quality turn key paint job? I’m guessing $15k, or more, but I’d sure like if someone could weigh in here.
2-Is there a particular color best to order, given I will be having the entire outside of the vehicle repainted (sans fenders and roof), like white, black, etc.?I suppose corners could be cut, and some of the inside surfaces, such as inside door edges, and the like, could be left as is, so maybe a particular color is best, or maybe for $15k these surfaces would be included in the repaint color? Then there’s the question of the dash color, like red, etc. vs/ gray or black.

Thanks, in advance, for any kind help or advice on this!

I once considered repainting a car… it was a fleeting desire, like a tattoo and/or a lady of the night… anyway, shop said to do it right it would be between $8-12k with labor to disassemble and mask being the lion’s share. This was a small car too.

id recommend you not do this, and instead, hold station until you can score a used one that someone bought on impulse.

$8,000 on the low end? I can't see it ever being that cheap. To paint my 70 Javelin in 2007 I was quoted $7,000 and that was a car 14 years ago.
Paint alone was $2,000

To I've got about 7K in my SX4 and I did almost all the work.
Granted there should be no "body work" but there's a whole lot involved painting and changing color unless you want to open doors or the hood and see the old color.
I stripped all glass, all trim, latches and strikers, everything.
It's hard to imagine painting anything as complex as the JT for under about 12K but then I haven't painted anything since my SX4.
Maybe the price of paint hasn't gone up - last primer I bought was about $100/quart.

On a new truck, 10k would do it including jams and hood by just about any reputable shop in the northeast. Why not sit tight for a few months and go used and take the money you would have spent, plus the money you’d save and have a hemi dropped in.

Gobi-ish colors are showing up on some unbelievably normal cars (Kia sportage in sand track, base canyon/Colorado in dessert something base taco in quicksand etc.)

If you go the custom route, maybe forget actual Gobi and spend a month with a swatch book of a few hundred different shades of similar colors, most swatch books are free or you only pay shipping. I do that with powder coat and never, not once, have I settled on a color that I originally loved.

Must be cheaper there...... I'd be surprised if I could get it done for that here. Maybe, but then I've not painted anything for a while. Paid 3600 to have a hood and roof repainted after rock dings from passing trucks.

Wow, you guys are high. I used to collect (about 5 years ago) old Lincolns and almost every one had to be stripped, epoxied and painted 3,500-4k on the high side for a small shop. Here in Florida is a different world so maybe that's it.

I’ve been working with a body shop that seems to specialize in Jeep stuff. They have been painting parts to match my trucks color. I got lucky to have one nearby.

I don’t remember exactly what he said, but it wasn’t as expensive as I thought. You could try calling and see what they say.

I’m not planning on repainting the whole Jeep myself, but they seem to have fun colors on new Jeeps every time I go in. They do good work and do both regular paint and that Kevlar liner stuff.

What about under the hood, do you plan on leaving the engine compartment factory or stripping and painting it too? If stripping and painting, what will that do to your warranty?

Tell me about it man, we lived in Wakulla for a few years and at that time there was a single body shop located less than a mile from Wakulla high. They’d have beat to heck cars in and out looking new for a few k. Mostly single stage but good work and cheaper than a wrap today.
