So I just picked up an overland JT with the limited slip in the rear. The dealer installed a lift, 37's and sold it as a certified pre-owned. After having it for a couple of weeks I decided the 3.73's needed to be upgraded to push the 37's. I dropped it off at a local shop to regear and got a call a few hours later to inform me the factory limited slip is toasted! Not going to lie I was a bit worried about it since my JLU (I have since sold the JLU) limited slip ate itself @less than 8000 miles. So my question is should I have them put it back together and go back to the dealer? They said since it was still under the certified warranty it would be covered (providing they agree it is damaged upon their inspection). My other options are to install an E locker, or maybe a truetrac limited slip (I think they finally came out). So in my experience and talking to the shop that was going to do the work it seems common for these to fail. When I picked up my JLU the guy mech that did the work on it said "make sure you come back before the warranty is up!" I'm wondering if they have updated the part or if it's still a problem? Also I'm torn between going back with a limited slip or e locker. I'm in Cali for a 4 more years so I will be exploring trails and playing in the snow, but I'm not sure where I will live next and if there will be the as challenging trails around there that need a rear locker. Oh also along with the regear I'm having a front locker installed. I was hoping to run that and the factory limited slip together, but if I'm getting away from factory maybe an e locker would be awesome? Gotta decide in the morning when the shop can price out my options.
