OMG your E rated tires and 46pis are hurting my back just reading your post. LoL
Yeah, mine are E load and ride great because I run 33–34 psi. When I first got it back from having tires installed they were at 40 something psi and the ride was rock hard.

I posted these pictures in another post but I think this might help you. I changed my original falken tires from a 285/70/17 to a 255/80/17 same tire. They are about a half inch taller 32.8 to 33.1 and 1.5 inches narrorower. The before picture is without the AEV lift and after is with it. Going with the skinnier tires I picked up about 2 mpg as the tires are about 10 pounds less.

Did going narrower help with the steering and getting better mpg is a plus also.

Thanks for all the good advice a lot to think about. We have a trip planned for Colorado in June. A long road trip for us. The bad part is the jeep is new with 3k miles on the stock tires so I will take a hit if I replace them. If I did I just want to make sure it’s worth it. I don’t want to fight it for 2k miles or so.
Thanks again

The hit is not nearly as bad if you can sell your originals. That tire size is highly popular right now for jeeps and other vehicles. For just under 300$ I had the size I wanted after selling my originals.

It does steer a bit easier although I did not have any problems with steering with the originals.

When you say "fight it", do you mean that your on-road handling is really that bad? If so, I'd start with an alignment check first. I don't think that changing from the factory Wildpeak A/Ts is going to make a significant difference. Maybe I got lucky, but the only time my 21 Mojave wanders is in heavy crosswinds (and that's expected).

I'm just trying to understand better. I assumed your original Mojave tires were the optional MT tires not AT. Is that correct?

If your OEM tires are the ATs you aren't going to do much better with K02s. They may ride a bit softer, but not a whole lot.

People Work?
Lower a few more psi and see what happens. Your tires will wear better also
Ditto.
I run 34 by my gauge and they read 32 on the TPMS.
If I go 37 on the TPMS it's 40 on the gauge.

Here's a great resource for comparing tire specs on 35's vs the stock 33's.

The KO's in 35 are still lighter than the Falkens at 33.

If only I didn't just get tires less than a year ago.
The 255/85R17 Baja Boss ATs were actually available back then. They aren't a brand new size.

The stock Mojave Falken Wildpeak AT tires seem to do just fine for me. However, I just switched to a set of JL Rubicon take-offs for the summer, which are BFG KO2s. They seem to be a little bit better on-road as far as handling goes and they are quieter than the Wildpeak ATs.
i was suprised when i put the ko2s on-- suprisingly quiet--and were decent in snow too

Just wondering why you went narrower.
I wanted to go with the narrow look. Most prefer the wider tires and I just wanted something different than most.
I used to have a couple square body trucks and we always ran 33x9.50's on them.

We currently have a Suzuki Samurai with a set of 33x9.50x15 on it. Looks great!

I replaced the stock Mojave Falken Wildpeak AT3 in 285 70 17 with Nitto Ridge Grappler's in a 305 70 17 size about two weeks ago and the ride is much smoother and less jarring over the frost heaves and broken pavement we have up here in Northern AZ. On the way back to the Grand Canyon from Flagstaff yesterday afternoon, my wife commented that whatever I had done with the tires was good and I "better not change it". Like others here, I tried to drop the pressure down to 33 psi on the WildPeaks but they were still very rough (but great on snow and ice).

I have previously tried the Nitto Ridge Grappler, Toyo Open Country ATIII's, BFG KO's, Wrangler MT/Rs and Duratracs on a variety of Landcruisers over the years, and the Nitto Ridge Grapplers have been the best for my combined on-road/off road use so I was hoping they would work well on the Mojave.

I was also surprised that the 1" difference in size between the Falken 285 70 17 and the Nitto 305 70 17 is unnoticeable when accelerating and cruising, and I am still holding 8th gear well, so I have not even changed the tire diameter yet with the Tazer.
