Yea that is exactly what I attempted several times. I had a heat gun, foam roller, tiny pin to poke holes, and the plastic vinyl tool to really press into the creases. After researching a bit more it really came down to me making two mistakes:

1. I used soapy water everywhere to lay down the decal. I should have just used soapy water on the areas not near the letters, or just laid it dry. Again, this was my first time doing a large decal and was a bit unsure.

2. I could of done a better job of stretching the vinyl into the creases as I was laying it down. I'd suggest starting from one side and slowly unroll or do it in sections instead of taking all of the backing off at once. Get the air out and conforming the vinyl to the creases using a foam roller as you lay it down. This would have been easier to do if I did not use soapy water because the decal kept moving around.

Cheers
all things considered, you did a great job for the first try. I redid my tailgate decal three times. ?

Cheers!

This is awsome. Looks mil but hasn't gone overboard. work some authentic blackout drive lights on it somehow? Also that tan topper is perfect. If tan softops for the jeep existed.... ?

LOL appreciate it! The videos make it look so easy but oh well...at least you got yours done too! If mine ends up lifting more then I will redo it but lets see how long it lasts.

Appreciate it and yea, a cohesive and subtle Jeep version of a deuce and a half was my goal! Cool idea on the blackout drive lights I will have to think about that one. ;-)

Now for the tan soft top...I have been bugging Bestop for this for the last two years and was hoping for another company to release a tan soft top. Suntop ultimately came out with one but I really dont like how it functions and it is clearly not an all weather solution like the factory soft top. A good deal came up on this one and finally decided to accept the fact a tan option with OEM quality wont happen and pulled the trigger.

Cheers

So I'm NOT the only one that sees the resemblance! The hood lines match up really well.
I was going for the same theme but kinda had to put it back burner. Those fifteen52s look WAY better than I imagined they would. Wish I'd gone that route instead of the AEV Pintlers...

I finally got around to installing the retro embossed Jeep badge from Kaos Design and vinyl in matte military green from Pixel Decal.

Took way longer than expected and I still have bubbles around the letters to get out. Gonna let it sit in the sun for a day or so then use a heat gun / poke pinholes to hopefully get the air out. I think the biggest problem with the letters was the soapy water not allowing the vinyl to stick.

Let me know what you think!

Cheers

Nice.
The tan color Soft Topper goes great with Sarge Green too!

How close in color to gator is the tailgate overlay?
That is a nice contrast to the Sarge green.
I acquired some test samples 3 years ago to see what was the best match for Gator. I don't know if any new colors have been introduced since then. I think the best match is the second from the left KPMF K75531 Satin Stealth Tundra. I think the far right is the color the OP used on his. For anyone interested, Metro Restyling https://metrorestyling.com/ sells samples of most of the vinyl they sell.

Thanks for sharing! Yea it is probably not the exact same vinyl but from the pic the far right is the closest it seems.

Well there you go. It was supposed to be the 3M Matte Military Green but they had to send a different brand due to supplier issues...but extremely close.

Literally just saw your rig on the interstate and went, "oh wow it's that tailgate post!". It looked great in person!
