I disagree with this. There's plenty of overlanding in the US and North America. Not saying it's the same as, say, Australia or something, but saying there is none is like some weird gatekeeping flex, and there's no reason to do that.

Not flexing. Just an opinion. Yeah we have backcountry discovery routes. Plenty of forest service roads. I do agree that it is nothing like Africa or Australia. But again IMO everyone got hooked on that term "overlanding" now it's in everyone's vocabulary for doing what people have done for years. Camping off-road. Again just an opinion.

Having driven over some tough passes with a 150# RTT on another vehicle, I specifically appreciated the option to mount one over the bed on the JT. With say 35's and a two and a half inch lift a half height bed rack will still put the tent up high enough for a view while keeping it below the roof line when buttoned up. Lower center of gravity and not having another brick on top of your brick of a truck will benefit you with less noise, impact to fuel economy and better driving dynamics.

The safari look with the RTT on the 'Roof' is all well and good going max 35mph across the savannah, but at 80mph on an interstate or off kilter on a trail it's not so awesome. The JT is such a great overlanding vehicle because you can fit four pax comfortably with your tent over the bed and enough room in the bed for a couple weeks of camping gear. Compared to a full size truck with more payload, what the JT lacks in outright capacity it gains in maneuverability. I'm a proponent of not compromising the advantages of a mid-size rig by making it ponderous with poor loading.

Does this company give you the option of swapping out the flat caps for T-groove caps? I have the Roll-N-Lock slide tonneau cover and changed out the flat caps for T-groove and then went with Billie Bars system.

Great stuff! Do you know what the weight capacity is of the t-slot rails? I'm sure the Billie Bars can handle the weight of a tent, but concerned about the weight capacity of the tonneau cover rails.

I looked at RTTs but it's a no go with my ARE camper shell. So I'll do a Gazelle T3 and a 10x10 EZ up. Total weight of about 80 pounds and about $600. all kept in the bed dry. Bad weather = hotel.

Great stuff! Do you know what the weight capacity is of the t-slot rails? I'm sure the Billie Bars can handle the weight of a tent, but concerned about the weight capacity of the tonneau cover rails.

You’d have to contact Roll-N-Lock for a factory weight capacity for their T-slot caps but they tie into the trail rails inside the bed. I have not been concerned at all if they would handle the weight I’ve put on the Billie Bars and there’s been no distortion to the bed cap T-slot or to the trail rails. At the very most, I’ve had 200lbs T-slotted attached with no issues.
