An RSI dealer was telling me that to drill a hole into the Side Wing Doors of the Cap that it would require a special drill bit? what type of special drill bit would be required? I'm assuming this is because the cap is steel? I have a MaxTrax mount that will utilize Rivnuts to attach to the outside of the wing doors.
My guess is that they said that because stainless steel is harder to drill through. You likely need a carbide-infused drill bit so that it is hard enough to drill through the stainless steel. Standard bits will dull quickly and will not work well.

I haven't read through this entire thread, but has anyone heard more details about the new RSI Facility in Texas? I wonder if that original open date in May is still accurate?

RSI hasn't responded to posted inquiries here on the forum, and I haven't seen any other info on the opening. I was hoping it might mean faster delivery of my order but am guessing it won't help in my case. People ordering from RSI in the USA this summer or fall should see faster delivery times....lucky for them. :)

How did they work out? I ordered the Mounts as well & switched out my Maxtrax Extreme's for Maxtrax II boards but I'm holding them up in the mount to the sides of the cap and the mounts will mount on the side of the RSI Cap however I'm seeing the boards will cover up the latches so the key to unlock them won't be accessible to get the side doors open I would have to remove the MaxTrax II from the mount first which kind of sucks. Might want to check yours if you haven't already. Was wondering how you got around that issue? or if you did? Not exactly compatible as Expedition Essentials had told me on their instagram, going to look awesome however.
I'm pretty happy so far.
the big bummer for most people is that they will cover the latches meaning you have to take the boards off to open the side doors. Not much of a hassle for me.

also note that the struts are not strong enough to lift the weight of the mount + boards, they carry the mount no problem though. And well struts can always be upgraded.

Might be a way to mount them higher up to possibly clear the latches... there are plenty of mounting holes, but it looked a little weird.

Hey it looks great! ??? I considered mounting it higher but I don’t think it’s possible since the mechanism goes all the way at the top & very bottom of the mounting board so the board would no longer be on the wing door. I haven’t used the wing doors so probably no big deal for me either. Very nice rig & I like what you’ve done. Thanks for the reply & attaching photos. ?✌?

Mine was around 5k since there’s an extra $100.00 shipping fee. I paid an extra $250.00 to have it installed & I purchased the flat platform rack which was an extra $850.00 or so plus tax so it added up.

I picked up my RSI smart cap on Friday. Did the installation this weekend. I'll write much more soon. But in short, I'm happy.

Its a great product. Its terribly packaged. If you can, pick it up rather than having it shipped. Its built like a tank and very sturdy.

More to come . . . .

I will be hauling my dog in it a lot. Anything I can do to reduce heat inside is a good thing. So before assembling it, I wrapped the top panel in white.

Clever idea. Not sure if you've seen them, but there are companies that make coolers with a battery powered fan in them that blow out the cold air. They're great to throw in the back and strap down when the dog is back there.
