Why wouldn't the dealer and regions jeep guy (engineer i'm assuming) know about this process? Maybe because it is tied to wranglers?

It may not resolve his issue, but it's worth a shot. There's a few posts on the JL side about weird things after gears on certain vehicles.

I regeared my JTR to 4:88s six months ago, but never reprogrammed it. I haven’t had any issues at all. My rear diff sensor is malfunctioning, but that is because I tow a large travel trailer often. Very common issue for people towing with a JTR. I installed the Z Automotive bypass and haven’t had any issues since.

Did you do it yourself or have a dealership do it?

Definitely subbing to this thread as I have a manual Rubicon as well. From the wrangler thread, it seems like the only issues are the auto start stop, and that just basically needs a battery disconnect to reset. But it seems like you have more serious stuff going on if they are replacing axles and a transfer case. Interesting.

Reading this thread is exactly why I am hesitant to regear my '20 JTR AT. My OCD, and other anal attributes would get the best of me. Especially because everything is good now.

If I do it, I'll have the dealer do it like op, so at least I get some warranty help should it go awry. That's one of the things I like about Jeeps. Great "aftermarket" support through the Mopar line while under warranty, and great true aftermarket support once that runs out.
Reading to see how this turns out, and hoping some other regeared manual Rubicons chime in too though. If it's just the ess system, I don't care too much. If the truck is truly going to "burn to the ground", well, then I do.

Wow!
This thread has so many issues in a short span.
First, I have to say that I am totally ignorant on current day trannies (gear drives people), but back in the day, there was no such thing as air sensor anything on an enclosed housing, and computer based tech relies on speed, input sensors.
What does this relate to > per the dealership
Where does this "air sensor" reside? Pics please.
I want to see this, just saying.
Respect, not judging, just a world first for me.

I had Mopar 4:88's installed in my Rubicon by a local Jeep dealership. Before I left the parking lot the auto start stop threw a warning light and became inoperable. I called the dealership and they assumed it was the auxiliary battery and told me I would need to bring it back and let them have it for 4 hours to test the battery and if/when it was bad they could replace it under warranty.

Fast forward a month and I drop it off to receive a call letting me know they have programmed the 4:88's but every time they start it and pull it out of the shop the auto start stop issue pops back up. When they go back into the programming it has changed back to 4:10's. They let me know I can come pick up the truck and they will work with Jeep to get new code and call me back when they get it.

Two weeks later (last Monday) I take the truck back as they now say they need to regional Jeep guy here so they can connect the system up and work with Jeep as they cant figure out what is going on. I was in the area (today Friday)so I popped in the dealership to see if they had made in progress. Here is where it gets FUN!!!

I have now been informed that you can not put 4:88's in a Rubicon because the rear diff has some air sensor in it and now that they have done both the rear and and front end both axles need to be replaced along w/ the transfer case. They informed me this is only an issue with Rubicon and that if I had a sport or Mojave no big thing. At this point I have no truck, no idea what resolution looks like and scratching my head as to how the heck this is even possible.

Please dont shoot the messenger as I am only sharing what I have been told. Please do share if you have a Rubicon, had a dealership install 4:88's and if you are not having the same problem would really appreciate a PM with your dealership name so I can have mine call yours and compare notes.

All that said I really dont want to go back to 4:10's so need to start looking at other axles as a potential resolution. Thanks in advance for any guidance, positive input or good natured go buy a Ford smack talk as it is all appropriate about right now.

@JeepCares
DING DING DING...... sorry, just trying to explain to some other people (@danielspivey) on this list EXACTLY how to post an issue! Five stars lets get to it. Sorry for your issue.

I had a reputable place do it. Not a dealership. I checked with the dealership and the guy had no idea how to price out a regear and wanted to charge me for a complete axle rebuild. It was like 4K per axle. So I new then I needed to go somewhere else.

My buddies 2021 jeep Rubicon JL has 5:13 gears in it. Don't know anyone personally that has a JT Rubicon with swapped gears but I wish think that if you can do it in a JL you should be able to swap them in a JT. Sounds like BS to me. You do need to program it for the gears though, that part is true but as far as not being able to do it, I'd call BS on that part.

I've had 5.13's on my JTR with 37's for a while now with no issues. I had a reputable shop that I trust do it though and have a tazer mini for recalibration. My local dealer wanted me to replace my rear axle after hitting a deer. I got two separate second opinions that said otherwise. I don't trust dealerships other than warranty work.

This sounds like a load of manure to me. I don’t trust dealers in general, and if it was me, I would find an aftermarket shop and speak with them. Lots of folks on here have regeared their JTs. I had a bad issue with regearing my JK at a dealer, so my response is influenced by that. Nonetheless, too many people have regeared for this to be real. Also, a new transfer case?!?
