Does air in fact flow? It must flow under the insulation if it does.... Why not have them free flow?

How about the vents on the fenders, flow?

Motobilt makes some great vents for it that are functional. I agree with @Zachanadandy, depending on where you are you can remove the insulation entirely. I doubt it's doing much to dampen noise, and if you're in places that are warm all year around you don't need to worry about heat retention.

There is a CAI that has a kit that utilizes the passenger side scoop for air flow to the air box.

The kit also contains a scoop for the driver side that allows air flow to/from the engine bay.

Someone has a ewetoob vid up and documents that the engine temp did drop after doing the mod.

The big concern, is forcing water into the air box on rainy days.

It is funny, Jeep claimed, at least early on with the JL, that they are functional. I have looked at them and see no way for that to be possible. But they may be using the term functional really loosely....in that they have little water drain holes in them, meaning they are functional to drain water. Ironically, it would be water that would not be there if not for the fake vents. LOL.

I replaced my hood insulation a while back, and on the bottom of the vents, theres only a very small square hole. Probably 10mm square. So no they are not functional. I though about opening up the bottom but they would let in a whole bunch of rain in, and of course other water like a trip through the car wash.

Following. Anyone know if the s&b or banks cai provide noticeable improvements on a 3.6L and thoughts on comparing the s&b scoop cai combo to banks cai?

I ordered the S&B Filters Air Hood Scoops Only Kit for mine yesterday. Here is another thread already discussing the same topic. I also didn't know motobilt made some but after looking at them I still would have gone with the S&B ones.

No CAI is going to give you any real power increase. The S&B with hood scoop has been proven, via dyno, to reduce power.

Does anyone actually have a set from Motobilt? I'm curious how good it is at actually keeping water off the engine, looks like it still drain in.

SB Scoops is the company that does the air scoops for the JT and JL.. but they are more induction than allowing heat to escape.

The Motobilt vents have drip trays to stop water from going right in, the heat from the engine keeps it pretty dry.
