K&N in stock.
It's great to see they have them in stock and I like the fact that they ended up posting a dyno. Likely couldn't feel a 10hp & 20lb/ft gain but I think it's safe to assume that any decently designed intake for this platform will be a force multiplier when combined with a tune. GDE netted 472lb/ft to the ground on a wrangler EcoD recently. Banks is right up there as well, 460 something to the ground. These were on stock filters. We'd likely break into the 500s with an intake.

K&N lets more dirt through than almost any other filter and has the least capacity to hold dirt over time. My last choice.
I thought they finally dialed things in, I remember pulling one with 20k miles and it looked & felt beat to hell and that was just under normal use. The material seems to break down way too easily, surprised that is still the case, this was way back.

I have actual scientific tests in a room with a dyno where multiple filters are compared and tested for specific things. Not only does K&N let more dirt through, they have less capacity to hold dirt so need to be cleaned much more often than others, and there have been other dyno tests showing the increases in performance are only for a short time until it begins to accumulate dirt and at high RPM ranges - outside of normal use.
In short, they are likely best for short time track use.

In your testing what type and/or brand of filters provided the best mix of filtration and flow? Anything close to the filtration of OEM?

I have other charts but the AC/Delco was among the best filters if not the best.

Yep Shadows is right, K&N should be the last choice especially for a turbo engine. If I see a car or motorcycle with a K&N, I steer clear. I've had good luck with aFE in the past

I will be ordering the Banks this spring. Im pumped. If I can have the power when I need it and keep decent mpg when Im not ā€œon itā€, i will be happy. 25mpg today on 500km loop on winter #2 diesel. Not bad. Love this diesel!

AFE is not far at all behind AC/Delco and Baldwin for the efficiency tests.

In Iowa diesel is about $0.40 higher than regular gasoline. So how does the extra 4 mpg over gas calculate out in money savings over time?
I'm curious as I see diesel owners brag about their mpg and yet at least here they pay higher prices for fuel so is it really, in the end, a win mpg-wise if you pay more for fuel?
Right now you'd pay on average 40 cents more/gallon
It's been as high as 70 cents more/gallon.

Diesel is the same price where I live in western Canada. It was cheaper in fall but now its on par. Still saving 4mpg on average which equates to about $5 per 100km’s I drive. Highway driving Im saving over $6 per 100kms. So easily $20 savings in fuel per tank fill up compared to my gas 3.6 previous. Its real apples to apples after owning both vehicles.

Location location location, as they say. Yeah, that makes sense.

Yeah not sure, If it were a stock 3.6 it would likely be a wash but my previous gas Jeep’s averaged 13 or 14 mpg here in the mountains once weight went on. My brothers 21’ gas rubi averaged 13mpg on a trip with 37s, beadlocks, skids, rack and tent. My setup nearly mirrors his only my tent is slightly bigger and I get 26mpg on the highway.

A buddy runs 1 tank of off-road diesel ($2 per gallon cheaper and intended for city/state trucks and agro. Same fuel only dyed in case audited) every other fill-up. It’s risky but it’s like copying a CD. Nobody cares and if I were in his particular situation I’d run it full-time. Kind of nice to know that if SHTF, I have the option to pickup some risk to cut fuel costs significantly.

I’ve got the S&B on my Dodge 6.7 with the pre filter. I don’t know I’d I experienced a difference until I removed the baffle just before the turbo. After removal, I got audible feedback from the turbo (minimal), but the biggest difference was the exhaust break. Sounded great and in my opinion engaged a little more aggressively.

On the 3L, I’m not sure how affective it would be. I’m not sure if the baffle can be removed and what you would void if you did. We all know there’s no exhaust break. I already get a ā€œwhooshā€ sound if I load up the engine and release the peddle just before it drops a gear. Performance??? Who knows? My guess is not enough to give up the safety of better filtration the OEM filter provides, especially as we keep hearing how picky this motor is. Again, this is only an opinion.
