Hi everyone, just purchased a 2023 Rubicon over the weekend. So far really enjoying the Gladiator. Quick question… after some searching on the forum about the center console USB freezing up / disconnecting CarPlay. Noticed most of the conversation was on the 20-22 model years, was a fix ever found? My 23 is doing that exact freeze up / disconnect thing. Taking it to the dealer Wednesday next week and was curious on the fix or if other folks were having similar issues on the new model year.
Here’s the new ride…. Let the modding begin!

I’m actually having the same issue on my White 2023 Rubicon! I started using the USB on the dash and that has worked correctly, but I never figured out why the center console USB was doing this.

Welcome to the addiction.

So... yeah my 21 would Freeze up too. A possible workaround that has worked for me is to get one of these:

With the use of a factory USB-C to Lightning cable from Apple, it has made Apple CarPlay work for me... but it charges really slow so I end up just using the front one.

Godspeed.

I’ll post what the dealer comes up with…… if anything.

Here is a current thread on the issue. Many times, the problem is the cable or the phone. Don't expect a lot from the dealer for this issue.

Confirmed, it's a '23 White Rubicon issue, bullet dodged. ;)

I don't think I'd like to keep up on keeping it clean, but these Gladiators are looking good in white! Congrats to both of you.

Congrats on this new baby! I just picked up a 2021 Overland - I plugged into center console with my Amazon non-apple 3m cable, and the display said “device not supported” then it would stop charging after 3 secs of plugging it in, wouldn’t even load car play.

I tried it a few times, nothing. I found an old authentic apple cord, it’s beat up, but when I used it in center console, it worked! Has been working without an issue for last 4 days.

The key could be using authentic apple cords. Because on my previous car, the long non-apple worked just fine for charging and CarPlay.

the non-Apple did work on the dash plug behind shifter, but I didn’t want all that cable crowding my space! Hope this helps, cheers!

Welcome!

I've heard about it but don't' think it's ever quit on me. I do know that the phone is sensitive to the cord that's used. Apple cords don't last long and a heavy duty truck stop cable is actually not bad. The one I have now is about a year old and once about every 3-4 months I have to unplug my phone and plug it back in. It's always worked to date. This behavior is typical and happened with a GMC Terrain I used to have as well.
