Find it hard to think they're related, but I figured I would ask.

Earlier this week my uconnect scheduled an update and my first time driving since the update was today and the Service ESS light is on. I drove about 50 miles with a few key on offs cycles and no change. Wondering if having the tazer installed during the update was an issue.

I had my tazer installed during the update a couple weeks ago and all came out OK with mine.

Any programming that is emissions related such as the ESS system would require a whole lot of unnecessary paperwork, time and more importantly money to get everything approved again through EPA/CARB. I doubt Jeep/FCA would make any changes to the system through OTA updates unless forced to by some gov entity. And even in that case I would think it would be an in-person recall. I think what you are experiencing is purely coincidental.

What is the age of the batteries?

What is the age of the batteries?
Maybe 2 years. Truck was bought in 2019 and both were replaced under warranty. I was left stranded after an ess bat failure and had to be towed to dealer.

Recently I started leaving ESS enabled when first starting up, for the purpose of watching to see if it trips. If it never trips because it's always charging, probably time to think about replacing the batteries. But once it trips a single time I'll disable it for the rest of the day to reduce charge/discharge cycles.

I was having the battery charging message pretty much all of the time. Being a late 2019 build and I bought it in late 2020, I suspect that my batteries are near end of life. However, I disconnected the batteries and charged them separately. When I hooked it all up, it took just a few miles of driving and the ESS was available and it has been since then. That was a couple of months ago.
