Hey everyone, 2023 Mojave, 4400 miles. First time on the beach in the outer banks of NC. Drove it 4hi, same as my wrangler. When parking, I got a message that said clutch is hot, power may be diminished. Which is kind of common on the beach in soft sand.
Few hours later, getting ready to leave, message says “service transmission” and won’t go over 10 mph in 4hi. Got off the beach and in 2hi will only go 45.

stopped at a nap and they couldn’t clear the message with obd2. Called the closest dealer, 50 miles away and they said have it towed. Of course stellantis can’t get a tow tomight. The dealer is open 8-2 tomorrow. I need to be out of my rental Sunday (I’m on vacation) so I’m pretty much screwed.

anyone have thoughts on limping it 350 miles home? Any way to clear the code? I disconnected the battery for a couple hours but that didn’t clear the code. Thanks if anyone has anything. I’ve already called stellntis a few times.

-for what it's worth, I believe there is 'trip interruption' reimbursement as part of Jeep Wave if you are traveling.

So here’s the update. Had it towed this morning. The service department closed at 2. At 1230 they had flashed the transmission module. No luck. There was nowhere for me to rent a car, all the rental places closed at noon. So Jeep Wave said to Uber back to where I’m staying and keep receipts. I talked with the tech a bit and we decided to do a full flash of the memory. That cleared the service warning. He didn’t see anything outright wrong with the transmission, so we said it must have been an anomaly. That said, I have a car with a badge that says “desert rated” and now I’m afraid to drive it 2 miles across the sand.

Yes, supposedly the recall clutch had been put in before I bought it in December. I’m wondering if that’s true or not. Either way, I’m going to reach out to service. Now I’ve lost a lot of confidence in the truck.

Update on the update. Threw the same code today. Drove to the place I’m staying at 45 mph. Called for another tow. Cool, keep resetting it, and not fixing it. Ugh.

This sucks to hear :/

14,500 on my MT with no issues so far. Hope you get it worked out soon. Software...hardware...maybe they'll replace it? Almost sounds like there's a software glitch that is reading wrong or maybe there's something causing the clutch to slip constantly resulting in heat build up? Sorry man. Don't give up.

Helpful tip. While I do believe this is a clutch related issue. Using 4lo greatly reduces stress on the transmission and clutch. If your in the soft stuff and bogging her down, 4Lo helps keep those temps low. I see a lot of people crawling up mountains or pushing through some type of powder and then wondering why their trans temp light came on. Just cus it looks easy, doesn't means your transmission ain't fighting like the 3rd monkey on the ramp to Noah's ark and it just started raining. I'm sure 4lo wasn't needed for you but it does help as far as limping things back off the beach.

Sorry to hear this and curious to know how they fix it. I have a Mojave 6MT and never took it to sand yet. How long did you drive before you saw this message while parking and what gears and speed did you do in the sand. It sucks that they rated for an activity and we cannot do it because we have manuals... They need to come up with a permanent fix for the clutch issue.

Things I would check. See if you can more information about the recall. I also got the jeep after the recall was done and they replaced clutch disc but not the flywheel. Mine drives pretty good on road after 2k miles and took it once off road (nothing crazy) but ran in 1st and 4L, 4H without any issues (for 10-20mins tops).
Hope yours is an software issue and they should be able fix it without replacing clutch.
I am trying to keep it stock till I drive a CF/ACT clutch and see the benefits.

Thanks for all the help and great responses. Couple of things I've learned / am learning:

The selling dealer alleged to have completed my recall prior to me picking up the jeep. I asked them for a copy of the RO when I took delivery, but they said they did not have one. I'm frankly a little suspicious that the clutch was actually replaced. I wanted to confirm it with the parts list on the RO. The dealer was a bit sketchy on details when I bought it in December.

I've driven MT Jeeps on this beach since 2001, and this is the first issue I've ever had with using 4 hi. I used 4 hi and 2nd gear the first time with the Gladiator, and after about a half mile it started to give me the overheat messages. I pulled over immediately and shut it down. Second time I decided, why not try something different and tried 4 lo and still only took a half mile. I'm almost wondering if the temp sensor isn't bad. No clutch smell or bogging. Just driving along and first Auto Start Stop cuts out, then it says shift less or push the clutch in all the way (really?), then the service transmission light comes on. The tech at the dealer said it had no stored codes, and he was surprised that it didn't auto reset the limp mode after it cooled down. This sounds more like software or sensor than actual clutch, but what do I know?

I've got an escalated case in with Jeep. They don't seem to be overly helpful, except to say that I need to keep my receipts and they will reimburse me up to $1,000 for trip interruption issues. I'm fortunate enough that my office is okay with me working remote this week while it gets sorted, but I've got to leave for home Friday at noon. Supposedly, a specialist is going to contact the dealer today and try to help them with troubleshooting. Jeep is apparently going to manage the interaction with the dealer, so I don't need to keep calling. I suppose I'll call Jeep again in the morning and see what they've found out.

I've been in touch with Extreme Terrain and Quadratec, and they can overnight a centerforce or ACT clutch if Jeep decides it needs a clutch. I think I'll push for Jeep to reimburse for that if the actual clutch is determined to be the culprit. I'm just not sure how far the dealer will be willing to dig into this - he knows I'm not at my home dealer, and he's probably got easier things to occupy his time.

I called Tazer and they said their JL MIni should be able to reset the service transmission message. I was thinking of grabbing one just on general principles, but if there's indeed an issue, I don't want to keep resetting it and grenade my transmission.

I just bought a leftover '23 MT and had the same issue.

There are some calibrations that need to be done that they don't mention in the recall. (stupid, I know) It seems to be a software issue and not mechanical. My understanding is the vehicle compares engine speed and road speed depending on which gear it is in. If there is a discrepancy, it thinks the clutch is slipping and gives the warning, sometimes going into limp mode.

The dealer reprogrammed the tire size and the clutch eprom to fix the issue.

This has been a common issue on jeeps with the recall performed. Just check the Facebook recall group and you'll see. Some sort of software issue.

I’m going to probably use another thread because this is a technical thread. But in the last four days, Jeep has treated me with nothing but blame (you’re driving it wrong), delay (someone will get back to you), more blame (you should be talking to the dealer) and displacement of responsibility ( it’s your fault and the dealer’s fault).

I was actually told today that literally no escalation specialists were available.
